I'm a New Yorker and I have always noticed the sign above the hotel.....the sign is intriguing and typical Manhattan. Right across from Lincoln Center, thus I had a direct view of a special evening for the summer festivals. The hotel has some of their old character yet it is up to date.

Conveniently located near Lincoln Center and Central Park, which was ideal for my 5 and 4 yr olds. It was a super easy walk back after a whole day of exploring Central Park.

This property is in dire need of updates. Our curtains (which were filthy) and literally fell out of the ceiling in the middle of the night to reveal an even dirtier fabric shade in the morning. The noise level from outside (due to the old windows) coupled with the ancient air conditioning units which are extremely loud and go on and off all night made for a horrible nights sleep. The staff knows how bad it is and has ear plugs on the ready which are of little use. We had to sleep with our earphones with brown noise to get any sleep. Thank goodness the bedding and bathroom was clean. We picked this location b/c of Gossip Girl and the proximity to Fordham. BTW, the rooftop bar isn’t even part of or run by the hotel. I would never stay here again nor would I ever recommend.

Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2 out of 5 stars) Review Title: Overpriced and Overhyped – Only the Lobby Impresses The Empire Hotel looks beautiful when you first walk in, the front lobby and building entrance are stunning and give the impression of a luxury stay. Unfortunately, that’s where the charm ends. The rooms are incredibly small, with tiny, dirty windows and furniture that’s falling apart or missing pieces entirely. The bathroom is outdated and barely holding together, which really took away from the experience. The rooftop pool is a huge disappointment, it’s barely bigger than a walk-in closet. It can only hold about 10 people standing, and if there are kids in there, don’t even expect to get in. Not ideal if you’re hoping for any kind of relaxing swim. As for the rooftop restaurant and bar, while the menu is limited and overpriced, I will say the service was excellent and the staff made the experience much more enjoyable. Overall, the hotel is not worth the price. You’re basically paying for the location and lobby aesthetics. I wouldn’t stay here again unless major renovations are made.

Very dirty. Mold in bathroom and very smelly shower curtain. Air conditioner broke during heat wave. Was told I’d get a refund because they couldn’t change our room. Never received the refund. Room key kept failing. Had to change keys at least 6 times in 4 days. Lobby and location great.

I love the location and the lobby. But the room needed attention. The bathroom toilet ran, the refrigerator was not working, there is no workspace nor coffee maker. I like a coffee before getting brushing teeth, and hot water for tea before bed, so the coffee maker was very inconvenient. And in this day and age, most of us travel with some work, and not having a work space made a negative impact on my stay. The staff were not helpful. Only a doorman was very nice to us.

The hotel has been around for an awhile and it's starting to show. We have been to NYC on a number of occasions and know our way around. (We also lived near NYC and worked in Manhattan for quite a few years. ) I'd say that the hotel has a great location but needs some major updating.

We have been staying at The Empire 1-2 times per year for 15 years to attend the ballet at Lincoln Center. It is a simple walk across the street to the theater, and there are plenty of dining options nearby. We have always been happy with our room, the staff is excellent and gracious. I highly recommend the hotel.

The staff is amazing and such a great hotel to stay at. Now depending on your room it can very how much space you have. Regardless it was spacious and comfortable. I would recommend this hotel.

Our room was very hot. Had to have 2 fans delivered. Housekeeping set the thermostat to 44. Our room never got below 74. There was no exhaust in the bathroom so it got really hot. Then when the the door opened all the heat went into the bedroom

The AC in our room was broken and it got hotter throughout the night after a 97 degree day. We complained in the morning and they said to pack up our things and they would move use. We were out all day and returned late at night to find they didn’t move us but the AC was fixed. I asked to have the night comped and they said they would, but we have yet to see this resolved through Expedia.

This was probably the worst hotel we have ever stayed at along with one of the most expensive. Our room was at 81 degrees because the air didn’t work,along with the refrigerator. When asked to switch rooms I was told no rooms were available but they would send someone up. Someone came up and changed the filters(absolutely disgusting how dirty they were). I was told it was fixed and we should be good. That was not the case, I had to go to the front desk 5 times before they would finally offer us a new room.While I was waiting a woman came down and complained the lock on her door didn’t work. Their response was okay well we will work on it in the morning, never offering the woman a new room. Then a gentleman comes down and complained about something small within his room. With no hesitation they offered him a new room with an upgrade! I was floored because it took me all day dealing with this finally at 9:30 at night to be offered a new room and the woman before him didn’t even get offered one. Once we got in our “new” room, the air worked a little better but not great(wouldn’t go below 72), the wallpaper was ripped, the faucet in the bathroom tub was coming out of the wall,the door had a big dent from someone kicking it, the deadbolt wouldn’t work, and nasty black spot on bathroom tub. The location was the only positive out of this whole experience. Also, If you are looking to change your room send a male, it seems that’s the only way your going to get one without complaint.
