Location

Pros: Style, comfort, ease to the interstate.
Cons: A little awkward to notice the parking across the street, perhaps we just didn't see the directions.
We chose the hotel due to you driving plans and were a bit concerned whether such a small town would have a good facility and were delighted with the Carlton. It's a beautifully renovated facility with old style. It would be a perfect place for winery explorations all around the area.

Nice Hotel but not much in the town to do or see.

Pros: Historic.
Location: Nothing much to do in town.
The hotel is lovely but I would stay in another location the next time I am in the area. There is very little to see. I did enjoy the zoo and park.

Very mediocre totally overpriced !

So sad to see someone spend all that money on a building without a clue how to run it ! Parking sucks ! Located poorly with noisey bar across street, drunken people loitering around until all hours. View from windows was back of run down businesses. Lovely bathroom with barely adaquate shower water pressure. Website shows nice restaurant in building which we wanted for the convenience due to my wife being in a wheelchair. Surprise ! It's been closed for months with no mention on website ! Shockingly limited breakfast, again in nice setting but food mediocre at best ! Have had better food offered at Motel 6 level establishments ! Beds looked nice but I woke up with a series of bug bites on outsides of thighs, I am still itching ! The only amenities in room were two $4 bottles of water and 4 tiny coffee servings ! Really ! A 4 star hotel ! What a joke ! Staff seemed totally disinterested in customers and unresponsive to our comments. In hind site I would not stay here again even if the rate was more realistic at about a third of what they charged us. It seems someone had more money than expertise ! A fool and his money are soon parted !!!

Classy hotel near wine country and central coast

Staff is very helpful and friendly, especially Hilda. We were pleasantly surprised by the large room and quality of rennovation. My wife and I will be staying at the Carlton on our next visit for Paso Robles wine tasting.

small but comfortable

Pros: everything
Cons: little larger rooms
We have stayed at the Carlton numberous times. The staff is friendly & accommodating. The rooms are small but beds are very comfortable & bathrooms are good size & set up well. We plan to stay there again, hotel is well maintained & has a comfortable lobby with fireplace.

Great Stay at Carlton Hotel in Atascadero

Beautiful property - a gem!  Fabulous bed!  We slept like babies.  The hotel is decorated in grand fashion.  The rooms were very clean, luxurious and well appointed.  We had no problem with wifi connectivity.  They were putting the finishing touches on the coffee bar shop as we were leaving.   This hotel is in a great location, between Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo and was perfect for wine-tasting ventures.  Helpful front desk staff. If downtown Atascadero were more lively, that would be a plus.

European charm

The Carlton has turned an old factory into a beautiful, boutique hotel. It's downtown Atascadero, which is small, dusty and authentic. McPhee's in Templeton, just a few exits down the road has great food in a chef driven restaurant/bar. The rooms in the hotel have wifi, all modern luxuries and are beautifully decorated. If it weren't in such an odd location it would be full every night. As it is, now that the restaurant closed there, it's often half full or less. The good news is that you can get a room and it's reasonable.

Location Great! Comfort Wonderful!

We were looking for a place to stay near Paso Robles so we could spend time in the wine counrty. The Carlton was in a perfect location to reach all the different wineries especially those located south of Paso Robles. The Hotel was very clean with extremely comfortable beds and amenities. We loved the history of the building and the fact that it has been completely refurbished but the character of the hotel remained. We would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

A true surprise

I, too, found the Carlton accidently. What a great surprise! This is not your typical roadside hotel. 400 thread count bedding. The bathrooms are carbon-copies of Four Seasons bathrooms, with one exception: The Carlton's bathrooms have deep jacuzzi tubs. It's too bad this great hotel isn't in a better location.
