"Feel like an honored guest "
First off, this was our first time staying at an all-inclusive resort. Villa del Palmar was also not our originally booked hotel through Travelocity. The folks at Travelocity worked for over an hour to get us into a hotel at the last minute. We were nervous that Villa del Palmar had vacancies when no one else did. Did that mean it's not a good hotel? Yikes! Cut to check in. Patti is an absolute ocean of calm at midnight. She explained things, gave us time to look over everything and was so incredibly friendly. Our room was a one-bedroom suite and it was lovely. A view of the Pacific, comfortable bed, pillows, and water from the kitchen faucet that you can drink...it's purified at the hotel. Every single staff person was as friendly as Patti, and she set the bar high. Special hats off to Ricardo at the breakfast service and Joaquin at the El Patron restaurant! Great service and senses of humor. When I woke up at 7 the next morning, the first thing I see (and it didn't wake me up) was a crew of people cleaning the sidewalks, scrubbing the bases of the umbrellas and picking up the very few pieces of trash that were on the grass. The outside is immaculate! First impressions stuck. The place is wonderful. Food is great. staff are great. Price seemed reasonable for all we got. location is super.

"Safe compound style resort with a great beach"
Large compound style resort with multiple buildings. We were upgraded to the central building, which was great, because it is right next to the main pool and restaurant. Pros: ample drink service from poolside or restaurant staff. Food okay, no major complaints. Great beach access, could walk for miles. Surf could get too rough for bogie board rentals. Beach never packed with people. Minimal peddlars, not a nuisance. Plenty of pool or beachside lounge chair. Towel shop never ran out of fresh towels. Family did get significantly sick - we ate all the different foods, had ice in our drinks and had blenderized drinks. Plenty of bottled water available for drinking. Had free tennis and game rentals. The grocery store (and mall) were just down the road, outside the resort gates. Bought all toiletries and room snacks there- good enough selection. The mall also has a laundromat- gave a large bag of dirty clothes to the lady, paid 100 pesos and picked up the perfectly folded load the next day. Staff were all pleasant. Cons: unfortunately this is a huge con- check in was the worse process I have ever seen at all the resorts I have EVER stayed in. This is a large resort and they have a small desk with 2 or 3 staff to deal with all the people. We stood there one hour. Never seen anything like it before. This one major flaw is an example of a major fail of basic customer service. Extremely poor first impression! We won't be coming back to this resort a result!!

"Very clean comfortable room."
We really enjoyed this hotel the staff was amazing and very nice. The only bad thing was how they snuck the timeshare into your check in we did not like that because we were tired from the flight and did not want to have to deal with it at the start of our vacation.

"Our first "Resort" & Mexico experience"
My husband and I have never stayed at a "Resort" as accommodations. We always go very low key with a condo and kitchen. This was also our first time in Mexico. I choose this resort because of it's high ratings and the fact that this resort is located away from downtown Puerto Vallarte, near a preserve. The entire experience was unbelievable, totally relaxing, which was my goal. Biggest decision to make was what should we eat, will we be able to try all the items on the menus before we leave, or which pool should we hang out at. And those hammocks on your patio, WOW! The service and staff were first class, extremely friendly and sincerely cared about our stay. The food was over the top fabulous, fresh, tasty and healthy. The amount of activities you can do with tours or on your on, both "FREE" was incredible. Roberto, our kayak instructor was stellar! I truly can't say enough. We never felt it was too crowded at the pools, restaurants or grounds. Totally will be back!

"A good alternative to the high rises"
We chose Puerto de Luna because we don't like the expensive fancy high rises on the beach. We booked a superior suite. Upon arrival, the cushions for the concrete sofas were piled on the coffee table. We had to install them, not a big deal. We turned on the fridge, but nothing. It was not plugged in. We had to pull the fridge out from the wall and plug it in. Never saw that before. The next morning, we noticed a bee hive above our patio with lots of bees. We notified the front desk, and the removed the bee hive. But the bees stuck with us all week. Fortunately, they were not aggressive. With that said, our place was roomy, clean and comfortable. The beds were firm, but not bad. The shower was large, with abundant hot water and great pressure. Until our 2nd to last day, no hot water. We complained 3 times during the day, but it was not resolved. The day of our departure, still no hot water. I called the front desk and they sent someone out. The pilot light was out, and it was fixed. I could have fixed it myself, but the directions were in Spanish. Our room overlooked the small dog park, a highway, and the amusement park. It's a pet friendly hotel, and we enjoy dogs. They were pretty noisy in the morning, but we considered it entertainment. The amusement park opens around 5pm, and it's pretty loud. But with the doors shut, the noise was not bad. All comments apply to our room (Marte, #406), all rooms are different. Housekeeping was good. English is not widely spoken.

"Favorite place we have stayed in Puerto Vallarta"
This Hotel is right on the beach, Only 10 minute bus ride to downtown. Plenty of cool places to check out including lots of food. We like the food vendors on the Malecon. The Taste of Italy my favorite restaurant. and inexpensive. 15 pesos for Margaritas. Now we are middle lower class americans so we feel that this hotel and location was our speed, plus all rooms are facing the beach. The Botanical Garden is just a 20 peso, 30 minute drive. Amazing! The zoo was 15 minutes away and found an amazing family restaurant called Tony's. Good Tequila tour there too. But use bug spray for the zoo and garden. Many of the people of the Hotel have been coming back for years because it is affordable. The lagoon is amazing unless it is high tide. But the few days we got to swim in it was awesome. You can just watch the fish in the clear water. Thestaff was amazing Arturo, Osbaldo and the rest. Real friendly. We were not into their buffet meals. Some stuff good others not. Their presentation was great. We have stayed in Nuevo Vallarta and felt poor. We have stayed south of the marina and it was a little too hectic on the streets and noisy. Downtown and it was noisy fun. Costa Sur was the best location for us. We hope to go back there someday. Just wish the tide was not as high.

"Great all-inclusive hotel"
The staff at Riu was amazing & definitely the highlight of our stay. All of the staff that we interacted with were helpful & friendly, regardless of whether or not we tipped. The buffet food was fine & fresh but nothing noteworthy. The buffets had a variety of foods (vegetables, fish, chicken, beef, etc) & we didn't feel like we had to eat the same thing twice. The theme restaurants no longer require a reservation & if there is a wait, you can just get a buzzer & then walk around or sit in the bar until a table is available. One note: The week we went the hotel had one theme restaurant closed each night. We didn't have any problems getting a chair at the pool or beach but if you are specific about where you want to sit, you probably want to get your towel out to claim a chair early in the day. The staff fired up the grill every day around 12:30-1:00pm by the pool & we personally preferred the grill food over the lunch buffet. We loved the hotel's location--close to things but it didn't feel "busy". There's a small town 1.5-2 miles to the north called Bucerias. Puerto Vallarta is a 30-40 min cab ride away. If you are a golfer, talk to the front desk about the discount at the Flamingo golf course a few miles away.

"Beautiful resort, friendly staff"
We had a great time. The staff was very friendly - we speak a little Spanish and all have some English, so we got by just fine. The Superior room is large, the balcony view was amazing, the drying area for wet clothes was really handy, and the AC worked great. It has a kitchen area with a sink, counter space and storage but no fridge or microwave. I would have appreciated a coffee maker and an iron. The bathroom is small and the shower was not designed well. The landscaping crew did an incredible job keeping the grounds and pools absolutely pristine. We saw them working every day. We went to one of the evening shows and really enjoyed it. Manny the bellman was helpful and friendly. The waitstaff around the pool were very responsive, so if your dream vacation involves a lounge chair and cold beverage, you'll love it. Come down early and throw a towel on a chair because they do get full, especially on the beach side. The Italian and seafood restaurants were delicious with outstanding service, so definitely make reservations. We read about lines to make reservations, but had no problem. Be warned, they only serve Tecate Light and Indio beer, and your choice of wine is a simple one: red or white. They also don't consistently enforce rules when it comes to smoking, and children in the adult pool. The food at the buffet was repetitive and a bit worse then I expected, especially at dinner. That said, the staff there were awesome, especially Robert, Daniel and Antonio.
