Great 'European style' budget hotel

Hotel is walking distance(pulling suitcase) to Penn Station(Amtrak). Short walk to Times Square. Can walk to High-Line Park. Multiple subway lines close by.

Mother Daughter Trip

Pros: The location, price, quiet and access to transportation, dining, shopping and activities.
Cons: It would be nice to have some hooks on the wall or on the back of doors to hang towels, purses etc.
Location: There is a major subway station right there, and we walked to Battery Park, Grand Central Station, Times Sq., the Empire State Building and 5th Ave.
The Americana was as represented. We loved the price, location and relative quiet. We might not have considered this hotel if we hadn't been referred by friends; it is a hidden gem. There was a sink and mirror in our room and plenty of bathroom/shower facilities on our floor. The hotel is perfect for visitors who plan to be out and about all day. Other guests were pretty quiet and respectful, and even the neighborhood was relatively quiet at night.

Hate to do this

I get rooms for last minute visit to Times Square NYE are not going to be cheap. But, there's no mention of the communal shower and bathroom "per floor"! Then as I get back from watching the Ball drop, I find out a psycho broke into the hotel and attacked the front desk help. Then attempted to break into MY room! There's a BLOOD stained hand print next to my door. After bringing this to the managers attention in the morning he tries to "help" me by cutting my fare from $300 to $150(running rates are usually $75 by the way) . After being asked why I didn't just just leave at 1am on New Years night and then my threats of a lawsuit I was finally reimbursed fully

Had better experienc s less expensive places

Pros: Location
Cons: Everything
Location: Very centrally located and easy walk to a lot of prime NYC activities
First there are NOT private bathrooms. This fact was buried in the description and would have been a non starter for me. The communal bathroom was not clean and there were not enough for the number of people using them. The room was not clean (trash on the floor, hair in a bed and in the sink). When I arrived the one desk agent continued a phone conversation for five minutes and did not acknowledge my presence. The room networked only once and had to be redone. Overall was not happy.

My Stay at Americana Inn

Pros: Its central location near Times Square
Cons: Windows to mitigate outside noise. Very difficult to sleep
I booked the hotel aware of details pertaining to facilities/amenities of the hotel, however there were several things that really made me regret my choice. First, there was renovation going on in the hotel, and specifically on my floor, with heavy noise from 9am to 6pm 2 days long. Second, construction work also caused dust and odors that my friend and I inhaled and got coughing. Third, there was acknowledgement whatsoever from the personnel regarding the unpleasant nature of noise, work and low standard of services provided to patrons or any drive to resolve it.

Typical Affordable Hotel

Pros: Affordable Midtown location (comparative to Midtown)
Cons: Free Wi-Fi
My experience at the hotel was reasonably satisfying. My only quarrel is that I paid $130 a night and did not receive free wi-fi in a building that resembled more of a college dorm than a Midtown hotel. I guess I should just count my blessings...

Location, location, location

Pros: Great location.
Cons: Warn in advance that you don't get your own bathroom. Put a chair in the room.
Location: Times Square.
For $175 (including tax), what you are getting is mid-town Manhattan location. Eas walk to Times Square, excellent subway connections, etc. What you don't get is a private bathroom. There was a full bathroom right across the hall and on a one-night stay, it served the purpose. I did not have to compete with other people for it. No chair in the room. When I asked at the desk, I was told that this was normal. But a hotel staffer heard my question and kindly delivered a chair to the room. The room and bed seemed clean and the bed was firm. Would I recommend this hotel: I HATE this question. I don't make it my business to run around recommending or not recommending. My circumstances are my circumstances. Other people have entirely different considerations. So on recommend or not recommend, I always check "no" but what I'm really saying is "abstain."

European style hotel in a good location

Pros: I liked the location, the cleanliness, the pleasant staff and the lower price than most other hotels.
Cons: Some of the room doors squeaked and needed some attention.
Location: This hotel is within walking distance of Herald Square, Bryant Park, Times Square, the New York Public Library and the Empire State Building.
I spent five nights at the Americana Inn. I was impressed by the freshness and cleanliness of my room. The room was very small, but very adequate for a good nights rest. My room was in a inner section of the building where street noise was at a low level. Because of there not being any carpet in the halls the sound of people in the hall and opening their doors was a bit nosier than one would like. There was a squeaking hinge on my room door that was unpleasant. This is a hotel for those who do not have a problem with not having a private bathroom. There were several near my room and one just across the hall from my room. It was clean and as new looking as my room. The staff members were friendly. The maintenance man I saw in the hall a few times always spoke to me. The people at the reception desk were very pleasant and helpful. The room air-conditioner had a modern thermostat easily operated and it cooled the room exceptionally well. This type hotel at a more affordable price is perfect for me.

Cheap place to rest

For the price, you can't really complain too much. It was a great location, 5 minute walk to Madison Square Garden, maybe 8 minute walk to Times Square. The shared bathrooms were very clean, never had to wait too long. Our room was very clean as well, but VERY small. The biggest issue was the noise, we faced the street and you can literally hear every single thing happening outside. Our first night was terrible, we didn't sleep at all - the car horns and traffic was so loud! We asked to change rooms but it was full. The second night we had ear plugs, and it wasn't so bad. If you plan on spending a lot of time in your hotel, this is not the place to stay. However, if you only need a place to leave your stuff and *try* to sleep through the noise, it's just fine!
