Overpriced for the quality. We enjoyed the beautiful architectural design of Julia Morgan. But the property is not well maintained, and it hasn’t been updated inside the rooms. Our room has icky water leak marks at the ceiling and peeling wallpaper. The price is too high for a simple room with no television, coffee maker, microwave, or fridge.

Check in was easy and desk staff helpful. The property itself was pretty. Could have used some better lighting on paths at night. Our room was in one of the older buildings- no fan in bathroom which made it very humid in the room. We were there for four nights. Housekeeping came very early after the first night - 8:15am and we were still in the room and asked them to come back a little later. Never saw them again for the rest of the stay. Would have been helpful to have trash taken out. Coffee shop was good, outside seating was nice to gather with our group. Another gathering spot would be nice too.

Accommodating staff, some upgrades needed!

Easy check in. Room was incredibly basic, no tv. Double beds, not even queens. WALLS ARE VERY THIN. We can hear every conversation our neighbors had. First room had extremely loud family next to us. Children were screaming, the dad was yelling throughout the building, kids running up and down the stairs, and this hotel has small 10 bed cabins, so u hear everything. We decided that we would ask for another room, anticipating a very long night and wake up with our neighbors. Front desk staff was amazing to change our room and even upgraded up to a room with a balcony. Campus is huge but very beautiful. It just so spread out its a chore to get to the lobby for their cafe for coffee etc. They had a nice "Sunset" evening with live music and food. The BBQ was probably the worst we have ever had, but the atmosphere and live band was fantastic! Recommendations: Better beds, and catering for your events.

Absolutely beautiful setting. Easy walk to the beach. Dinner not in the dining room was a very limited menu and all pre prepared and no ability to accommodate allergies. Our room was very noisy with some animal running up and down what sounded like inside the walls. The floors are thin so stay upstairs. I will give it a try again as the settign was beautiful.

We all loved that it was so big and was very close to the beach and walkways. The room was not 100% the bathroom looked dingy and floor not well mopped. The area outside our room lounge area was very dirty.

I always enjoy the feeling of being in nature. Sharing my space with deer and trees. A short walk to the beach. Its kinda cross between camping and a hotel stay at a moderate hotel. If your on the peninsula and dont plan to be in your room much its perfect and charming.

The grounds are very nice if you like nature. The rooms are very outdated and I thought I was prepared for that but I felt like I was at summer camp for kids. My mattress had a huge stain that looked like blood but was probably chocolate milk . The screen on one of our windows appeared to had been pried off as it was bent. Our bathroom had the old slanted glass windows that were so filled with cobwebs and pine needles, that we couldn’t close it. The virtual assistant greeted us via text and claimed to be available for assistance. However, two requests that I sent went un answered. We had to seek out answers for meal times and prices for the dining hall. This information was not offered. We ate one meal in the dining hall which felt like a cattle call. We were not informed that we had to pay in another building, so we had to go buy tickets and the. comeback and stand in line again. We then noticed that after 15 minutes of our arrival, tickets weren’t even being required. So like 40 people ate for free and we had to pay. Overall rating a C-. Will not stay there again unless they have new rooms. It appears that some reno is being done so we may consider another stay.

Historic Camp

This is a historic camp designed between 1912 and 1928 by California Architect Julia Morgan. It is run as a California State Park and the lodgings and included breakfast are via a concessionaire. Expect: it is a camp with wonderful historic buildings and lots of different concurrent uses, and the frustrations of a California run-park. It's worth staying with a group or family if you are on the Monterey Peninsula anyway.

I requested through Expedia messages to Asilomar Conference Grounds , if we could could 2 rooms together and Handicap room for 2 family members that can walk up stairs due to disabilities. When we arrive staff were rude and state they can not accommodate because we did not book thru their website and they have a wedding party to accommodate. We booked the rooms a month in half in advance. Then staff had us waiting for 45 mins for a room. Stating that our rooms were not ready. Mean while they continue to check in people, without any dely. Then we were told rooms will need to separate 1 mile apart, one room upstairs and one room down stairs. With NO HANDICAP accommodations. Then we over hear Staff saying they are going to charge me for everything they can because i gave them a hard time about the rooms. Unprofessional!!! The bottom room has mold under the sink, furniture is dirty, curtains are stained, fixture in the restroom missing wires showing. All bad.

Historic and a bit rustic.

This historic property is very quiet and rustic,*no TV (which I didn’t mind). The grounds are very natural with native trees and vegetation. Amazing location on the coast. The history of this property is incredible and worth knowing before you stay.
