Friendly knowledgable helpful staff

Such a delicious novel hotel! Unique atmosphere, trendy, and out of the ordinary decor and room. Staff were engaged and sweet and helpful. Checkin and checkout were quick and efficient. The only complaint I have is that our room did not have a bathtub but other than that everything was lovely.

Great location, safe and comfortable.

Pros: Concierges always ready to help with restaurants, how much time to allow to get to things, and even booking or changing reservations for you.
Cons: They will offer to book your ride to the airport. Be aware that it is NOT a taxi/yellow cab and will NOT take credit cards. It is also more expensive.
Front desk staff always helpful, easy to walk/run to Central Park, Times Square, Broadway shows, Lincoln Center and other locations. I've stayed here twice now and for 2 women travelling together, we felt safe walking everywhere and coming back to hotel even after symphony or show.

Rating too general to justify why I won't return.

Pros: The décor was cool and "Moderne." The staff was wonderful...friendly and accommodating. Location was great.
Cons: No need to beat a dead horse. Just the things mentioned above.
Location: You can't beat the location!
Interesting hotel. Only 4 rooms to a floor (I think). Elevator is super hot, and the slowest I've ever been on. I'm guessing only the front rooms have a view. Ours was of a brick wall. We were two guests. We had two bath towels, one wash cloth, and [consistently] two hand towels. The second day, no wash cloths. The third day none again, so I asked some be brought up. The lighting, though beautiful, doesn't light the room very well. I had to hold things under the lamps to read (because of the only window was not getting much natural light). Our room was pretty darn small, but I hear that's a NY thing. What I found oddest was the beds are made with a bottom sheet and a duvee. No top sheet. There was an issue with our AC (which, in their defense, they tried twice to fix), so I would loved to have had a top sheet, and used only that. They said that's how they make the beds. Now, with all the complaining I've just done, we did have a pleasant stay. With all the other options out there, I find no reason to choose this hotel again.

Great Little Hotel in Midtown

Pros: Reasonable rates for a Manhattan hotel, cute modern & funky décor, great location, free WiFi, in room refrig, free breakfast, clean room.
Cons: Noisy A/C, room too dark, slow elevator, bed too big for room, no self service for ice (had to ask front desk for ice).
Location: Close to Central Park, The Shops @ Columbus Circle, MOMA, subway stations. Tons of eateries in the area. Within walking distance to Times Square.
Stayed at this hotel for a week in July. Selected this hotel based on reasonable room rates (for Manhattan), location, and nice décor. I am glad I stayed here and would highly recommend this hotel. Hotel staff were generally helpful. One particular person was very helpful - Robbie (?) He checked me in and was very welcoming. He provided a map of Manhattan with subway stations/routes. The location on West 55th St is very convenient - in Midtown West/Hell's Kitchen area. It was very close to subway stations, Columbus Circle, Central Park. Times Square is within walking distance. My room was very clean and had a nice modern & funky décor. Free WiFi and an in-room refrigerator is included. However, the room was very small, dark, and the A/C was very noisy. The king bed was too big for the room (kept bumping into the bed frame). I would recommend that no more than 2 small people stay in this room. Free breakfast (coffee, pastries) are provided in the Guest Lounge at 7am. There is no gym at the hotel but was told that there is a gym at The Moderne's sister hotel, The Ameritania Hotel, which is a block away (did not use the Ameritania Gym).

Robbi was great!!!

Pros: The location was convenient.
Cons: Housekeeping and remodeling
Robbi, at the front desk, was very knowledgeable about the area, places to go, and places to eat. He made our stay tolerable. The hotel was modern in 2006. It needs an update. It only has 1 elevator and it was slow. The housekeeping was disappointing because we did not receive clean towels unless we requested them and the sheets were not changed during our entire stay. If you just want a place to sleep and you are going to be out a lot, then this hotel is ok.

Wonderful hotel in excellent location

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet
We stayed at this hotel while in NY to see my nephew play at Carnegie Hall. It was perfect! Great location - within walking distance of Carnegie, the theatre district, MOMA. Close to subway. The staff was very nice and helpful - recommending restaurants, directions for getting places, etc. This is now my "go-to" hotel in NYC. We will most certainly be staying again.

sweating in th ecity

I don't care that much about the size of the room or frills but it is helpful if the air conditionaing is fucntional in the summer. It is even more aggrevating when the person at the desk denies knowing it was broken when out traveling companion who checked in earlier had rejected that room for the same reason.
