Very friendly staff, the rooms are modern, but very minimalistic. Close to WWII museum, and the French Quarter. Lots of great restaurants nearby. Alberto told us about The Little Gem Saloon, and the food was absolutely amazing, as was the service. P & G restaurant and bar is right around the corner and had a great breakfast (amazing grits). He Hotel has a great bar on main level and a cool outside bar on the third level. A fun place to stay.

This hotel is in a really cool, old building, and centrally located and a walkable distance from just about anything, but that's about where the charm ends. If you like the amenities that chain hotel brands provide, then the Catahoula Hotel is not for you. Firstly, when I booked this hotel four months ago, I requested a king bed. We were given a full. Secondly, our room was DIRECTLY behind the front desk, practically in the lobby. We could hear the incessant text alerts on the desk clerk's phone clearly as if the phone was in the room with us, not to mention the loud and constant noise from the lobby and bar at all hours of the day and night. A little bit of lagniappe from the hotel is that our clothes absorbed the odor of fry grease from the bar kitchen that continually permeated our room during our stay. The room itself was tiny, very close quarters for my husband and I who are not overly large people. The shower stall was wide open, with no curtain or door over the opening. No matter how hard we tried when we showered, we could not keep water from splashing onto the concrete floor, where NO bathmat was provided. Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen, right? In case you're curious, there was no hair dryer, iron, closet, or dresser, either. Our room was on the ground floor, and the window opened onto a narrow alley. Quite by accident I discovered that the window lock was very flimsy. It would take little effort to break into the room from the alley, undetected.

When we arrived our rooms concrete floors we soaking wet and the smell of pinesol was so strong it made you sick. The smell of pinesol and wet/mildew never left all week. Our clothes, luggage, bedding.. everything smelt like it! We couldn’t wait to get back home just to wash everything, and smell clean again! The room has a shower open in the room. There is zero ventilation.. so the room is like a steam room leaving everything feeling wet. The air conditioner unit hanging above the shower makes for a very cold shower. I felt like I was living in a camper where nothing ever gets dry. I felt like I was sticky constantly because of this. We went 2 days without any housekeeping. I finally had to clean the room myself and change our garbage. I left in all out in the hallway hoping someone would take it. We went twice without toilet paper. I had to go get it myself twice. We went without clean towels u til I found the closet they kept them in and then I stocked our room daily with new towels... new towels that smelt like burnt food from the kitchen that was close by!! We never walked on the rooms concrete floors barefoot because they were sticky and your feet would get so dirty on the bottom. Location to the French Quarter is definitely convenient and within walking distance.. but there are a ton of other hotels in the same location... do yourself a favor and stay at one of those! We absolutely LOVED New Orleans, but our hotel made us so happy to come back home!

We had (2) EXCELLENT front desk reps. There were (2) others that didn't seem to care much.We were given a larger room, however, after day 1, and it made a big difference. But, you kind of get what you pay for. We liked the place, cool layout, great location and a bit "eclectic", but was dirty overall, could use a thorough cleaning and consistent maid service. 5.5 out of 10

Hi There, Thank you for staying with us at Catahoula and for taking the time to leave some feedback. We're glad to hear we really excelled in some places, but we are sorry that some aspects of your stay were not ideal. I've forwarded your comment regarding inconsistent service from our Front Desk staff to our GM. We take comments surrounding the kindness and helpfulness of our staff very seriously as we do aim to be, above all things, hospitable. I have also forwarded your comments regarding cleanliness to our Housekeeping staff. We do hope you'll reach out to us so we can make things right should you choose to stay with us again. Hi Tom Thank you for staying with us at the Catahoula Hotel and thank you for the kind words! I'm so glad you enjoyed the location, we like to think that we're smack in the middle of it all but also tucked away enough to be pretty serene. Best, Chelsea Director of Sales and Marketing

Attractive hotel without the frills.

My first room was spare cold with only the bare essentials. On a hot New Orleans day the cold would have been a relief. I wasnt able to adjust it higher once the chill started to bite. Also a constant humming sound threaten to drive me crazy if I stayed overnight. I was moved to a different room, much larger with still the bare essentials. Bed, walls, table, chairs; the toilet was in a closet, shower in a separate room. The wash basin was in the larger living/bed room. The TV didnt work. Management was going to fix it but then I decided to stay elsewhere. But with all of that said, I would still recommend the hotel for the young in spirit and the budget-minded. The hotel has a certain charm that evokes the Caribbean and the South Pacific.

Our experience was one of mixed reviews as the location 4 blocks from the French Quarter was ideal. Access to many other NOLA sites and venues via Canal Street was just 2 blocks away. This 'boutique' hotel sandwiched between much taller downtown buildings was unusual, but had adequate amenities. The staff was friendly, but not available when we tried to call the desk our last night, because someone from the upstairs bar veranda tried to get into our room. Luckily for my wife and I, we had secured the security latch, which ended this guys attempt to get into our room. Unfortunately our last day in funtastic Nawlins began abruptly at 6:30, when (we were told later) "the night manager" tried to enter our room with his key. It seemed suspicious to us to have 2 people try to get into our room - especially since the door handle was 'inadequate' - within 6 hours of each other. We were told at check out that "our 'system' indicated you had left". Other than these 2 lasting impressions, the Catahoula was the center of youthful excitement and a wedding during our stay.

Great little spot

Pros: Unique. Clean. Great Staff.
Cons: Included breakfast?
Location: Right in the middle of everything.
Great little, unique hotel. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The bar in the foyer and the one on the roof were both great and the drinks were really well done with some great, unique offerings. The rooms and beds were comfortable and it looked like every room had it's own unique flair. Easy walking distance to the French Quarter and other city attractions without the noise of Bourbon Street. Really enjoyed our stay. The only downside was the construction right across the alley from the hotel, but, from the looks of things, I think they are wrapping up the construction pretty soon. I would absolutely recommend this hotel.

The Art of comfort

Great experience, would return if price was right... loved the look and feel of this boutique hang, but you give up on return service if you sleep in. The pressure in our shower was on the low side. But staff here was amazing; so welcoming and informative.. loved all the little nooks and the rooftop patio for near intimate sprawl. I'll be back, if the prince is right.
