Hotel staff was not very nice. We were not aware we had to pay for parking. The room was not terribly dirty but it could have been cleaner. Would not recommend this hotel.

Nice hotel, convenient location and decorated well. However, the beds ranked about as low as some of the roach motels I've had to stay at in a pinch. Seriously, they type where you can feel the springs binding underneath you. In this day in age there is no excuse for such a terrible bed especially for a hotel of the caliber.

We had a problem when we first checked in with the sliding “patio” door! Door was off its track and could not be closed! We wanted to leave the room to go somewhere, but couldn’t because they said someone would arrive “shortly” to repair, but unfortunately nearly two hours later and two trips to the desk, we finally got someone to the room to get the door back on track. We never attempted to open the door again! Yes they did attempt to offer another room, but not in that building or not as convenient a location! Made it sound like there wasn’t much more available!

Quaint, cool, and charming one-of-a-kind hotel!

This was a terrific place! Unique decorations and cool color schemes made the hotel aesthetically pleasing. Very courteous and professional staff throughout. Great location with shuttle service to Universal Studios and the Metro. Very clean both in and out of the rooms, lobby, restaurant, and pool. The hot tub was a great place to relax after long days of walking in Hollywood and the amusement parks. I would definitely visit this hotel again and would recommend to my friends and family!

Had a good stay at the Garland Hotel, when my party and I arrived, we were told our room was switched to another room where we would had a good or some view to Hollywood Studios, but sadly we had the view to highway 101 and parking lot. Oh well! After our valcony door was fix, we had a quiet night in conformable beds. Had to asked housekeeping for clean towels and our beds were just okay made on our second day. Third day, our beds were made better but pooll towels were still on the chair from the night before. Please don't get me wrong, housekeeping staff were nice/friendly but nobody is perfect. Pool area was clean with plenty of clean towels Service in this area was great. Would probably stay here again. Yours truly, Oh, plenty of parking

Not quite up to the hoopla

Pros: The valet service was prompt and professional. I liked that I could send a text message and the car would be ready within less than 10 minutes.
Cons: Breakfast at The Front Porch was a big disappointment. Food OK, service dreadful. No one came to take our order and we had to flag down servers.
Location: Convenient to Universal Studios, Warner Brothers.
I researched hotels near Universal Studios. The Garland came highly rated on several travel websites. Our experience was disappointing. My wife, our teenage daughter, and I arrived late our first night -- I called a few days before to alert the hotel that our flight was scheduled to arrive in the late evening to ensure that they held the reservation -- and found that the double queen room which we'd booked over a month in advance was unavailable due to overbooking. For our first night, they put us into a smaller room with one king size bed and a roll-away cot that we had to shoe-horn into the apace between the bed and the sliding glass door. The hotel promised that they would move us into the type of room we'd originally booked the next day, while we were out. For our inconvenience, the hotel agreed to pick up the cost of our first night's valet parking and our breakfast in the hotel restaurant the following morning. The next day, as promised, we found our luggage placed in a double queen room. It was larger than the room we had the right before but, still, smaller than I'd expected from the numerous photos I'd seen on the internet. Beds were soft and uncomfortable. When we were checking out, our bill showed us being charged for the valet service and breakfast that was suppose to have been "comped." A brief discussion with the clerk had that straightened out.

We know many people have different bed preferences and as a result we do have medium soft beds. For guests that require a little more firm we do have bed boards upon requests. Very cool room especially for the kids with the bunk beds. Comfortable and clean. Only a one night stay so we didn’t get to enjoy all amenities. The food at the restaurant for breakfast was all delicious! Super close to universal Studios and they had a trolley to take you there but we didn’t use it.
