The property was undergoing renovation which was not mentioned prior to booking. The 2nd floor where I stayed was a dusty and smelly as was my room. I had the most awful night unable to sleep due to the dust and odor. A true "bait and switch" operation.

Everything was very clean. Staff took fantastic care of us, aloud us to check in early. You could tell it has been around a while. Tile cracked, handles falling off in the bathroom. I would stay there again.

Downtown Richmond Hotel Guide\n

A savvy traveler knows that discovery is waiting around every bend, no matter where you go. But you’ll explore more than just a city when you visit. Richmond. downtown hotels place you near the intersection of past and present, like the restored Tobacco Row and the towering James Monroe Building. Here, you’ll find yourself in the living, thriving legacy of revolution. This is a city where U.S. history was forged; today, it’s fast becoming a destination for discerning foodies who understand that freedom occasionally means reciting Patrick Henry’s venerated “Give Me Liberty of Give Me Death” speech while partaking of blue crab and marble cake.

Free Things to Do in Richmond, VA

Perspective is an experience that often costs nothing, but imparts much in return. You’ll find plenty of it in Richmond. The city has one of the oldest park systems in the country—vast green spaces full of lush trees and vibrant flowers. Along the James River, you’ll find miles walking and biking trails with scenic overlooks. After a short boat ride to Belle Isle, you’ll be able to see the remains of a Civil War camp and learn about its history as a Powhatan tribe fishing village. Spend a little while in reflection at the Japanese garden at Maymont, a public park and former Victorian estate with an arboretum and collection of carriages. The Richmond National Battlefield Park encompasses the sites of over 30 battles, which you can learn about through on-site educational displays. View high-tech exhibits alongside antique metalwork and weapons from the same era at Tredegar Iron Works.

Where to Eat in Richmond, VA

Eating is serious business in the South, and Richmond is no exception. Before giving over to the wave of new culinarians calling the city home and shaping its gourmet future, remember to honor the past with soulful fare cooked lovingly. A plate of deep pit barbecue or biscuits filled with salt-cured Virginia country ham will fortify you for further food adventures ahead. The city offers up fare for every taste, from freshly-caught fish to the locally invented sailor sandwich, a delicious creation of pastrami, knockwurst, mustard, Swiss cheese, and rye bread. While none of the ingredients have much to do with the sea, its maritime title is due to the sailors who popularized the sandwich during WWII. In downtown Richmond hotels, you won’t have to look far to find well-crafted cocktails to complement a tray of briny oysters drizzled with hot sauce. At The Jefferson Hotel, afternoon tea service includes pastries, scones, and chocolate, along with your choice of brew or champagne.
