Arrived on a Monday night around 8pm. Hotel lobby was empty, staff sitting on couch. I was greeted and swiftly guided to a room. When I went to the room the door was already open. I went down to request another room for safety reason and he was able to just move me to another room on the same floor. Room was bigger but was dirty. Hair in tub on sink and walls. Trash on floor. Sticky table. Because of the extensive travel I did and the request to love once I just stayed. Used the blankets from the closet and went to sleep. Heating/Air was loud but bed was comfortable so sleep it was. But I won’t be returning to this hotel despite to accommodating staff.

This place is in DESPERATE need of a refurbishment. The window was fogged and dry rotted from the AC unit. The room smelt weird and was dark and frankly depressing. The window looked directly into another building (and we weren’t on a low floor). The elevator was laughably small. I’ve honestly never seen elevators that small even in NYC. The area around the hotel felt very sketchy and unsafe and the night staff weren’t confidence inspiring either. The park across the street was nice but idk maybe Richmond in general is a pass unless you’re there for work.

This is a hotel with character. Gracious building. The staff were friendly, the room was super spacious and very comfortable. Convenient to walk to historic sites, canal walk and fun restaurants. I only had a few minor issues with the bathroom lacking a hair dryer and bath mat (got the hair dryer after two requests) and a smoke detector that needed a new battery.

The front desk concierge was very friendly, and check-in was quick / easy. The room was great, though the cleaning product scent was a bit strong for my taste. Overall, everyone was incredibly welcoming. We’ll definitely be back. :)

I stay here relatively often if I have to work late, and the staff has always been amazing, and the location is super convenient. I just wish the hotel offered its own booking/loyalty program so I could book directly with them for a comparable rate. High point is how comfortable the bed is -- feels like some kind of feather topper.

The room was in good condition but the bathroom did not flush. Had to go to BR in lobby for our 2 day stay. They were not able to give us a different room. The manager did comp us 1 night and the 2 valet days but still it was a nuisance

We loved our stay at the Commonwealth Hotel! We were pleasantly surprised with an upgrade to a suite, which was spacious, comfortable, and spotless. The staff were friendly and accommodating throughout our visit. The location was perfect—close to the Carpenter Center and surrounded by excellent restaurants. Overall, a wonderful experience that made our trip even better. Highly recommend!
