At check-in, there was no one in the queue and I was standing there for almost 5 mins while the staff was chatting until the manager came out. For a 5 star hotel that is widely consider as an almost 6 star, this is a joke. But the manager was nice to upgrade us to a suite. The views from the suite was amazing and this was why we booked this hotel. However, when we want to use the roof top bar, the attitude and the service from the bar manager were unacceptable again. The manager wanted to close early by 10pm the portion of the bar area that has a nice view to the harbour bridge and Sydney opera house, instead of what they said "until LATE". But due to a long travel and other work, 10pm was the only time we could go to the roof-top bar, which is another main reason why we booked the hotel (because of the bar). When we ask if the portion could be opened until later, the response was "NO NO NO"! I guess he wants to go home early on Wednesday night. Would never come back again to this hotel for this lousy service and attitude.

The hotel is pretty ideally located for a first time visitor, being a short walk to Circular Quay and the ferries that can shuttle you around the city, as well as a thirtyish minute walk to the main tourist cites in the Opera House, Botanical Garden, Library, Museum of Sydney, Hyde Park Barracks, St Mary’s, the ANZAC memorial, the Chinese Friendship Garden, and the Maritime Museum, as well as all the bars, restaurants and shops of Downtown Sydney. Highly recommend it if you’re staying in town!

Lovely hotel - but a wee bit of a hike up the hill each day if you’re using public transport. Great size rooms, comfy beds. Lovely facilities.

I’ve stayed at Shangri-La hotels in other parts of Asia and I have to say that the Shanghai-La Sydney is quite underwhelming. We were greeted by a sombre reception with no offer to help with luggages or any details on WIFI or breakfast. The room is clean but tired looking. Don’t waste your money here, there are so many other options (better value for money) these days.
