I emailed and called them about traveling as a single woman and not wanting to be on the ground floor. I was on the ground floor and the floor of my room was filthy. They said they came and mopped but you couldn’t go barefoot as it was that bad. Everyone was very nice and polite though

I liked the room even though you could tell it had been renovated. However there were a few things that could be improved. 1. There was no Kleenex in the room. 2. Although they had specialty Shampoo and Conditioner; Facial Bar & Body Bars…the soap holder didn’t have enough room to hold it all. So I had to put the Shampoo and Conditioner on the floor. 3. The person who made the bed doesn’t know how to put a duvet and duvet cover on the bed!!! They put the opening of the duvet at the top/head of the bed. It should be at the foot of the bed so that the duvet can be pulled up in one piece. The open end should be tucked in at the bottom of the bed. 4. The room had a fairly nice view of the beach except for the roof of the restaurant.

This experience was terrible. The place is old smells set not sanitary looked like a crack hotel. The staff was nice but that was the only thing nice about it. Good location but the place is horrible. I looked at the Room left and rented a room down the street at a clean hotel at a Marriott

Likes: at this property you are definitely paying for the location as it walkable to the beach and shops on the promenade. The staff at the Surfer Beach Hotel is friendly, helpful and accommodating. Dislikes: the hotel is quite outdated and was under renovation during our stay. It is giving motel vs. hotel vibes. Parking is expensive ($37.50/day) unless you find parking on the street but even then, you have 72 hrs. parking is free but after that time, you need to move your car.

First pleasant surprise : location, location, location! Surfer Beach Hotel was literally embedded in the restaurants and shopping of Pacific Beach. We were steps away from the boardwalk and waterfront without suffering excessive noise. Second pleasant surprise: we were upgraded to an ocean-view room, and early check-in without needing to ask. The room was a little dated, but very clean. Staff was super friendly and always available. Would definitely stay here again for a casual weekend getaway!

Not what we thought

Did not look anything like the pictures. Very disappointing. They are remodeling but our room certainly wasn’t. We’ve been on cruise ships with bigger showers. Bad layout in general. However they were very nice when we decided to change hotels and refunded us without charging us a cancellation fee.

Not the place for me.

I picked this place because it had decent reviews and well priced. I will say being right off the beach was nice. Being close to the bars could be appealing to the right person. But the rooms are small! I am 5 foot 3 inches and I was taller then the shower heads. The beds and pillows were terrible. The carpet was moist and very dated. This place definitely needs a update. The rooms have window AC and you have to stand on the bed to control it. We made our stay work but I probably will not stay again or recommend it. The staff were very friendly and very helpful and the restaurant was very good. So not the worst place just not the best either.

This hotel is ideally located on the beach. Staff was very attentive and took care of all our issues. However, the hotel is outdated and needs to be updated. When we checked in the room had sand all over the floor and the door to toilet would only close halfway. Amenities are minimal. Many thanks to Hunter who went out of his way to provide good service!
