Covid restrictions if place, very few guests besides ourselves, minimal staff with most food and bar options closed or minimally available. Part of facility closed due to sprinkler system issues so we got bumped into older part of hotel--still nice but not ideal for our needs.

Odd remodel and a hike to the car

Pros: Staff was nice.
Cons: Build a tunnel to the parking garage ! Or build an enclosed walkway to the garage !
Location: Five minute drive to Duke Medical Center.
Pros: Very nice and helpful staff. Very clean. Woodsy quiet location, though a bit difficult to find on a dark rainy night. Impressive open spacious lobby. Valet parking, and you are going to need it. Cons: If you dont use valet parking the uphill winding path to the garage, some distance away, is more like a short hike then a quick walk across a parking lot if you forgot something in your car. My biggest complaint is that we were in a remodeled room that was one of the original rooms from the older hotel. Apparently they tore down the adjacent parking garage from the original hotel/motel, and built several new floors above the massive lobby. I had to twist through a small add-on area to get to the elevator and exit the rear elevator door to get to my floor. Or i could have carried my luggage down approximately 6 steps to my floor. Old meets new, its joined together oddly and the grandiose lobby fades away as you round the corner and walk down the enclosed hallway in the older remodeled section. I stopped and stared at the other floors and rooms that were across an open outdoor area. Honestly it was a flash from the past in a bad way. I'll guess the original structure was from the 50s or 60s. The room was small, the heater/air was in the ceiling and it BLEW on me all night. I have no idea if the new section is nice, the lobby certainly is.
