"Good Motel 6"
Clean and quiet -- which is what I wanted. I did have a problem with smoke in the hallway one evening. Cable TV with HBO. WiFi ($2.99 a day - free for AARP members) worked well -- and the one time it didn't a quick call to tech support fixed the issue. Near the freeway and a grocery store as well as fast food and a bunch of other hotels. I went jogging over the freeway (good sidewalk) and to the right on a small road with infrequent traffic.

"Looks Shady but Actually a Great Stay & Bargain!"
About a month back my mom and I drove up from Southern California to help my sister move out of her dorm room at HSU. I didn't know exactly what to expect with this hotel since the ratings seemed to be all over the place and not very high but I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with the excellent customer service. The manager upgraded our room to a bigger one with two apartments at no additional expense since my sister wanted to stay with us instead of spending the night in her cramped dorm. They even moved all our stuff to the new room for us while we went out for breakfast. I've stayed at the "nicer" hotels here like Express Holiday Inn and Hampton Inn and Suites and I can honestly say my stay at the Town House Motel was just as pleasant though nowhere near as fancy. So if you're looking for a bargain where you actually get your money's worth, I highly recommend this place. *Note: I can understand that if you've never been to Eureka or neighboring Arcata before you would think of the area as "shady" or not safe looking but this is due to the fact that these are rural working class towns with an unfortunately high homeless population due in part to few employment opportunities. If you're not used to being around homeless people I suppose you might automatically think they're dangerous or criminals but we never felt unsafe or threatened in anyway. Just use common sense and take basic safety precautions like you would anywhere else

""A" for Effort "
An old hotel on the highway, with comfortable beds and room. Breakfast was a cold one, bland but clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Front desk gave helpful directions and local information. The hotel is a short walk from the very nice Old Town area filled with great restaurants. Biggest problem, no A/C in the rooms. Had to keep window open and it was noisy outside since we were on the 101.

"The Inn in progress"
It was a thrill to stay at the Eureka Inn, its a landmark. However, guests need to remember how old it is and that bathrooms are small and heating is not central. It was in the low 30's when we were there and just a small heater in the room which did get the job done after a while, but the lobby and hallways are frozen. In time, after renovations are finished it will be beautiful again, so much has been done already. The owners and staff are wonderful.
