Adolphus Hotel

1321 Commerce Street, Dallas - Map
"The fanciest Hotel you'll ever stay!"
If you're planning a stay at the Adolphus, make sure you shine your shoes! I made the mistake of booking this hotel in a hurry to book a nice place on the last weekend of the State Fair that was nearby. I used to live in Dallas so, I'm somewhat familiar with the area and usually never stayed downtown for risking a grungy area. As such, the stars really mattered so when I saw a good price with 4+ stars I booked it. The thing is, we were all dressed for the fair which meant my daughter and I were in shorts, athletic shoes, and t-shirts festooned with cotton candy and deep fried twinkie drips. My wife was horrified at our post-Fair appearance when we checked in and made a bee line for the elevators. We kept as low a profile as possible. The staff who saw me were pleasant and seemed to understand what happened. I suspect we weren't the only State Fair attendees there, it's just when you're at the fair, perhaps the fanciest hotel in Dallas wasn't the best choice. However, it's not the Hotel's fault, I sincerely apologize for not being the best dressed. For once we saw our rooms we were blown away by the antique styling and beautiful decor. The bathrooms were amazing complete with adjustable shower nozzles, big mirrors, and tiled floors and shower walls. My room was a bit cold and just turning the AC off kept the room pleasant enough for me. The antique nature of the room means that some things are "rougher" but it's a nice patina as opposed to grunge.

Except for the tiny closet that wouldn't hold our clothes, overall experience was a 5. With adequate closet space and a little updating in the bath, would give it a 5 Star rating hands down.

""What an emjoyable evening""
Upon arrival, we were met by the friendly staff who welcomed us to the Embassy. The staff unloaded our bags and the valet held our keys as we went to the fromt desk to checkin. As I went to retreve my keys and move the car, I tipped the bellman who escorted and my frriend and our bags to the room. When I entered the lobby after moving the car, I was informed that our bags have already been taken to the room. I met the bellman as I entered the elevator and he indicated that our bags were in the room and he reminded me of the room number. When I entered our room, Mary indicated that she had attempted to tip the bellman and that he indicated that I had already taken care of it. That speaks to ones character in the most positive way. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. We were away from the facility for the cocktail hour on Friday evening but the breakfast on Saturday morning was outstanding. The entire staff was friendly and engaging.
