Great hotel and funky (in a good way). Free pool table in lobby was a lot of fun to play with the kids at night. Gym was perfect size for what you need- 2 treadmills, 2 elypticals, a bike, racks of free weights to 50 lbs, balls, and matts. Free coffee, too!!!

Convenient hotel

Aloft is in convenient location, close to a retail/shopping/residential area so decent lunch and breakfast restaurants nearby since there is not really a restaurant in the hotel (except for a few breakfast choices). Hotel is industrial, loft-like, functional but not luxurious. Even though we were able to park in the courtyard as they did not offer valet, they made us pay $10/night which seemed ridiculous. I guess for the area the price is decent, but with no restaurant and a charge for parking your own car, it did not seem like a good value.

I Felt Like They Were Getting the Good Deal

Pros: Close proximity to places.
Cons: Luggage carries, drawers for clothing, a closet to put my luggage (because leaving it out is a safety hazard, especially for the handicapped)
Location: UNC, doctors, coffee shops
Well, I felt like I was staying in an Ikea the whole time. And I mean that in a bad way. I just imagined the hotel laughing because they had double the rooms in half the space. Not only that, but they charged for parking without advertising that obviously on their website or anywhere. I go to the area for medical treatments frequently and I can always park my handicapped car by the door. This time, the valet was taking up all of the good spots. The worst part was unloading. Clearly, there was not enough space for the number of cars unloading and the VERY small carts to unload luggage made it a nightmare. I was glad that we were driving, not flying, since that meant that I could bring all of the pillows that it takes to make me comfortable, as well as all of the braces, but it took two trips to unload for a two night stay. A traditional cart could have easily accommodated all of it. The unfriendly staff staring at my luggage and making eyes at each other made me want to crawl into a hole and die. I will be switching hotels when I'm back next week.
