"Great location, comfortable stay"
The location was great, the hotel is beautiful and the rooms were very clean and comfortable. It's great to be able to walk right through to Grand Central Station where you can take the subway everywhere. The only problem we faced is that our teenage children went for breakfast alone and the wait staff took advantage. They poured them juice when they didn't ask for it, refills, etc. and it was VERY pricey. It was definitely a case where they were taken advantage of. But the hotel itself was very nice. You could get a more affordable breakfast right there...and it had good options, tasty muffins, yogurt, fruit etc. (which I would recommend for a grab and go) but no where to really sit but in the lobby. For the price, I think there should have been complimentary morning coffee like I find at most hotels. I would definitely stay there again.

"Everyone should do at least one nite there........"
It could actually be a game changer, in that all the people in the area are great. The hotel brings to mind the late 1800s, or maybe depression era NY. no elevator, what looks like 2 to 3 stories of stairs straight up, don't bring a lot of luggage. Flip-flops would also be recommended for the shower. The incredible laundry at 179 Hester can take care of the sheets, pillow cases, and all the gets kind of hot in the rooms, probably would be more pleasant in the dead of winter.

Original reservation for 3 people. So room was small with king size bed. Luckily the third oerson couldn't make the trip or that room would've been very small. I m thinking that they probably changed our room when they found out there are two people. Overall, it was a good stay

"A pleasant, no frills stay for a short trip"
I stayed in the bunk bed cabin, which is adequate for the no-frills traveler. It is about the size of a sleeper car on a train, just so you know that going in. The staff are awesome, and the location is nice and quiet (right along the Hudson River). Just keep in mind that the cabin bunk rooms are very small with a shared bathroom down the hall, so don't expect Trump Tower.

"UNBELIEVABLE! I would stay here every time. "
Every single employee bent over backwards for you. The least friendliest of all employees was the CAT. The bathrooms were small but who cared. From the door men, to the baggage persons, to the front desk, to the hospitality staff, everyone had a smile on their faces, a pleasant hello, and made you feel at home. BRAVO to the person who hand selected the employees for this hotel. Goodbye Carlyle, hello Alqonquin!
