The facilities were old and showed their age in many places, but the staff were all very friendly. Despite the surrounding environment, the room was very quiet, and I was able to sleep well.

Lived it! The door man was AMAZING!! Loved the location in Bourbon Street and the Jazz club is so fun!! We will stay again for sure!!

A fantastic hotel, in a fantastic location - right in the middle of the nightlife on Bourbon Street. If you don't like late night noise though, make sure to book a room facing one of the courtyards rather than on to the streets. The inside of the hotel is well-insulated for the external noise though and is an oasis of calm. The rooms are well decorated and equipped, and the facilities are good - in particular the third floor courtyard pool. The staff are always helpful. This was my seventh stay there over the years, and hopefully not my last!

I honestly do not appreciate the fact that it was abundantly clear our room had been given to someone else and we were placed in the next available. When I spoke to the front desk about this, she offered no apology, no solution, not even an extra amenity. I just said ok and decided we would make the best. To have paid nearly $1000 for the weekend and not get what we paid for is frustrating. I don’t think we'll be using Sonesta again on our next trip. Beautiful hotel but not accommodating at all.

The Royal Sonesta New Orleans is my home away from home, the staff is friendly and cheerful, everyone is helpful, and there is never a problem that can't be solved immediately - I HIGHLY recommend this hotel

Very nice stay.

Ours was just a one night stay for an anniversary but I got to have my one night on a balcony overlooking Bourbon Street. Nothing special was happening down there but people watching was fun. I wish I had brought my thousands of beads so I could have thrown them to people on the street, maybe making a notch on their bucket lists too and I wouldn’t have made anyone flash me! Definitely more than we usually spend for a one night stay but it’s a check on my bucket list. Mardi Gras is the only thing that would have made it better. Staff was wonderful and even had a treat for our anniversary.

Bad: Several pool loungers were broken. Tiles surrounding the pool were slippery, even when dry. I saw MANY people fall - HARD! So dangerous! The pool itself did appear to be clean. The bar staff at the pool were ok. The lobby looks nice when entering, but the chairs are OLD AND DIRTY. There was a large yellow stain in the bathtub, and the sink drain was semi-clogged. Water ran down very slowly. No way to clear the steam after a shower. There was not enough lighting in our room (3071). Only two lamps, no overhead lighting. We had an inside balcony room. There were at least 20 rooms on the same level that opened onto the wrap-around shared balcony. For those 20 rooms, there were four tables outside of random rooms. When I called down to ask for a table, the representative told me to take one from outside another room. She said that's what everyone does. Ok, so everyone knows that there are only four tables for 20 rooms, and it's ok to steal one from someone else, risking getting into an argument with another guest? How RIDICULOUS!! Early check-in (before 11 am) will cost you $75. Even at 10:59. Good: The staff were all very friendly, and the breakfast at Desire was delicious with impeccable service. Beds were VERY comfortable and the air conditioning in our room kicked a$$!! The feel like the temp outside was 107 most days, so we lowered the A/C to 65 at night and woke up freezing! Just the way I like it. All in all, not sure if I'd stay here again.

The hotel was extremely noisy at night, with competing loud base, loud music and drunk people late into the night. Impossible to sleep. I was also offered to have my $25/ day fee waved, as a kind gesture when I booked in, and in return I wouldn't get the meal vouchers for restaurants attached to the hotel. When I went to check out they readded this fee, and would not adjust the price at all, even though I wasn't given food vouchers for the hotel. What a scam!
