Greeted by walking into a room with no air-conditioning turned on, the smell of mold & mildew was overpowering. It would wake us in our sleep. Wires hanging out of the wall where a phone jack and outlet should have been. Dirty unwashed wine glasses in the cabinet. No housekeeping visits during our stay, yet a random employee who finally brought clean towels (after asking 3x) arrived at our door blatantly complaining about the staff and the resort itself. The pool ran out of towels midday (3pm) and were never replenished all afternoon/evening. They were the size of large hand towels from what we could tell. Rooms are not updated, tiny flat screens, uncomfortable couch full of springs and staff with bad attitudes. Also the bland breakfast left a lot to be desired. We peeked under the fitted sheets to check for bedbugs but came across a nasty bed protector instead. I guess we should have been grateful. We didn’t even want to walk around barefoot on the carpet so we wore flip flops constantly. Why did we stay? Because it was only a two night weekend, So no time to waste plus no refunds for cancellations and we were going to try to enjoy our nine year anniversary. So we went out for breakfast and played in the ocean as much as possible.

The check in person was very nice, but there was only one person working and there was a long line of people that needed to be checked in. We waited about 30 minutes. The resort itself was great. The room could use a little bit of updating but for the price it was well worth it

My plans changed & I added an additional night to my reservation. Since I couldn't amend my reservation on Travelocity's website, I just made a second reservation. I didn't anticipate any issues because I had ensured I booked the exact same room type. The morning after my first night, the room cleaner asked if I was checking out. I said, the front desk said I needed to check out, but I was going to inquire about staying in the same room. The cleaner said that shouldn't be an issue because she didn't see anyone scheduled to occupy that room. I thanked her & headed down to the front desk. I politely asked the front desk clerk if I could do the check-in/out but stay in the same room (she was the one that checked me in the day before, so she knew the situation). I also let her know the cleaning lady was kind enough to let me know the room wasn't scheduled for anyone else that day. The front desk clerk acknowledged that the room wasn't scheduled to be occupied, but I would still need to check out, pack my things, wait until check-in time, & move rooms. I asked why & she said it was because I booked through Travelocity and not their website. She asked if I understood. I said, "no; but that's fine." I packed up, checked out, brought my things down & went for a walk. I was called 40 min. later & told I could have the same room. It was pointless by that time since I'd already packed all my things up! VERY DISAPOINTED by The Strand's service & I WILL NOT be staying here again.

Cleaners and breakfast staff were very friendly. The hotel was a bit more rundown than I expected. Closer to a Holiday Inn Express than a “boutique resort.” Despite this, I would have happily considered this hotel/chain for my next trip to the area. Unfortunately, the front desk staff I found this property on Travelocity—and otherwise would not have known about it. I had to book an additional night at the last minute so I had 2 reservations for the two nights rather than 1 reservation for a 2-night stay. Not an uncommon situation. Spoke with the cleaner that was on my floor, and she noted there were no other guests scheduled for my room, so staying in the same one shouldn’t be an issue. “No reason to make you move,” we’re her exact words. The front desk gal apparently didn’t agree. She said that because I booked through Travelocity, I had to pack up, check out, recheck in, and then wait for my new room to be ready. This was after I had politely asked it it would be possible to stay in the same room since the cleaner noted no one else would be checking into they room today. (Note: the room category was the exact SAME for both reservations.) After noting despite having the same room type booked, because I didn’t book directly through the hotel/chain websites. So even though no one would be in that room, I needed to go through the aforementioned check out/in/room change process, she asked if I understood. I smiled and politely replied that I didn’t, but it was ok.

ALL staff members were phenomenal and very friendly. Gym was nice and clean with fairly new equipment. The pool was always clean. Staff were all helpful. My ONLY complaint is that they DID NOT have a contingency plan in place for travelers like myself due to the mandatory evacuation. My family and I (including my 2 year old son) slept in the airport for 2 days. Our trip was cut short and we were left stranded because our flight wasn't for another 2 days. I wouldn't have mind AT ALL being moved to another safe location. But again we got our refund in a timely manner. Just wish they had a contingency plan
