Too bad
This could have been a great stay. But I believe our host forgot about our booking. I did not receive an email or text with check-in instructions. I had to reach out several times/several ways to contact the host. Finally did, well after check-in. We entered to find the property pretty closed up. Heat was off and wouldn't turn on. Thermostat read 54 degrees F. Cable was out. Spiders and evidence of mouse infestation. Clearly no one had opened the lake house for occupation. We communicated with Brian, the host, via text and phone. He was irritated with our requests. It was a 'busy' time for him (holiday weekend). He finally offered a full refund if we left. We accepted. VRBO customer service was a challenge. I provided all requested documentation (screen shots of text conversation, photos) but I had to contact customer service four times before the promised refund was processed. It's too bad, because this is a decent property. Not luxury; it's a lake house. A different host would have made this a very different experience.
