Downtown El Paso Hotel Guide\n

While they make for excellent scenery in your favorite old Western films, rolling tumbleweeds and vast desert plains baked by an unforgiving sun doesn’t sound like everyone’s perfect vacation. Luckily Texas has much more to offer than barren landscapes on which to practice your gimlet-eyed Clint Eastwood grimace. Enormous and sprawling, its striking natural geography is rivaled only by the skylines of its lively, larger-than-life cities. El Paso, in the westernmost tip of the state will, charm you with the perfect amount of southwestern style paired with the laid back spirit of adventure that has drawn cowboys, pioneers, and travelers for hundreds of years. Currently, the city offers somewhat more in the way of modern art, music, and technology than cattle drives or covered wagons, but it’s still well worth the trip to bed down in downtown El Paso hotels.

What are some great places to eat in El Paso?

In El Paso, partaking of the Tex-Mex food scene is a delectable adventure through the city’s own history and gastronomical legacy. Formed at the intersection of Tejano, Mexican, Native, and American cultures, the signature cuisine is a favorite of travelers from all across the globe. A trip here is also a convenient excuse to eat all the fajitas and chili con carne that your heart (and stomach) desires. We, too, have felt the irresistible call of the puffy taco, its savory filling dotted with cold dollops of sour cream and spoonfuls of homemade salsa, all wrapped in a crisp, doughy shell. We know it well. And sometimes, meaning all the time, this call must be heeded.

On a visit to El Chihuahuitas Tacos al Pastor, you’ll find some of the best tacos in the city. The city also has its fair share of old school steakhouses that celebrate local ranching history. Reserve one of our downtown El Paso rentals and take the short drive just outside the city to Cattleman’s Steakhouse at Indian Cliffs Ranch for an expertly cooked rib-eye. You’ll find every kind of dining establishment, from humble food trucks to candlelit bistros suited to a romantic night out. Then sample a few microbrews at Hotel Indigo El Paso Downtown for dessert.

What is there to do in El Paso for free?

In this city, you’ve got a wide variety of free activities to embark upon. Though visible from the windows of comfy El Paso downtown hotels, it’s worth getting out to take in a panoramic view of the arid, rocky mountainsides, the serpentine bends of the Rio Grande, and the lights of Ciudad Juarez just across the border to Mexico.

The best views of the city can often be found outside of it, from the Franklin Mountains State Park. For the traveler more inclined to indoor activities, the El Paso Museum of History provides a beautifully realized exploration of the borderlands between two countries, with five galleries full of art, photos, and multimedia displays. The El Paso Holocaust Museum & Study Center, El Paso Museum of Art, and El Paso Museum of History are just a few examples of other free attractions.

At Travelocity, we’ll help you book your dream getaway.
