if you book online they will make you pay for it

When the guy behind the counter found out we booked online he said it would take him longer to manually check to see and if we would've just paid him directly. It seems like he was punishing all the people who booked online as opposed to paying in person I making them wait extra long for the rooms. Other people were coming to the front counter to complain about unfinished walls and dirty rooms. He was kind of rude and we didn't get a room till close to midnight.

Lovely Old Hotel

Pros: I loved the location and the beautiful historic features of the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Cons: The rooms were a little worn. The sheets were quite scratchy and the blanket/bedspread was far too thick and heavy.
Location: Shopping...lots of it! Border crossings into Mexico are within walking distance (keep your wits about you and only visit during daylight hour).
This is a gorgeous historic hotel. The original name was Paso Del Norte Hotel, as I recall. It was built in 1912 and has many Art Nouveau decorative features, including a stunning stained-glass dome. The best part of the hotel, however, was the location. It's downtown, and only a short walk to the border with Mexico. Our room had a terrific view of both El Paso and Ciudad Juarez.

Disappointing stay in Downtown El Paso

Pros: Location, historic, cool lobby and cool glass-domed bar/restaurant.
Cons: Remodel rooms and hallways. Do something about the musty smell in the hallways and rooms. Better customer care from the front desk.
Location: Downtown stores and restaurants. Convention Center nearby. Art museum nearby. Theater across the street.
The Camino Real Hotel is located in a convenient location in downtown El Paso, Texas. It is a historic hotel with a neat lobby and glass-domed bar/restaurant area. The room we stayed in was roomy with nice furnishings. This is where the niceness ends. The rooms and hallways are showing wear and tear and need to be remodeled. There was musty smell in the hallways and our room that was made worse by a so called deodorant. My wife and I arrived about 1-1/2 hours early and had to wait until after 3 PM in the lobby to check in. We had to wait even though we knew the hotel was not sold out. The front desk clerk knew we were waiting to check in. When check in time came, the front desk clerk did not let my wife and I, and another couple know that ti was time to check in. Instead, she checked in another person who walked up to the front desk. My wife went to to the front desk to ask about bottled water when she found out the coke machine was out of it. She was told to go to the bar for bottled water. The bar wanted $5.00 for a 16 ounce bottle of water. We will think twice about staying at the Camino Real Hotel.

Won't be staying there again

When we got there our room had been down graded from a suite to a regular single. When we would call the front office, they would never answer their phone. The heater/ac did not work in our room. The hotel is just dingy. Not worth the price. The positive we got, was that it was in downtown. That it.

A facelift is direly needed!

Pros: The lobby bar and location in the center of town is good.
Cons: Updating, updating, updating needed!!!
Location: Convention Center, Arts district, and nearby ballpark is all within walking distance
The hotel is historic but so are the rooms! A major facelift could turn this facility into a first class hotel but until then, it is only decent.

This hotel was located downtown el paso perfect for shopping

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet
This was a really nice hotel located in downtown el paso located by all the shopping (which is why i was going to el paso for). The bed were really comfortable along with really nice sized rooms. The only bad thing is that parking was $6.00. I would recommend this hotel.

hotel was adequate for a few nights stay

the hotel, while in an historic area, does not live up to the nostalgia of historic El Paso. service at the breakfast area and room cleaning staff were excellent. reception staff were less than helpful including several follow up calls to track down a few items left in the room. each person who answered our call pushed our request to someone else and finally a voice mail box for the manager who never returned our call. when we finally got in touch the only concern the manager had was how we were paying to mail our lost items.

This hotel was just okay

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet
Cons: dated, dirty
The location was good and the front desk guy when we arrived was super nice and since we got in so late didn't even charge us for the parking. The hotel itself was a little dated and the restroom floor could use a serious mopping. I wore flip flops in there to prevent dirty feet. The other thing I thought was weird was that breakfast wasn't free?
