Memorial Day Weekend at the Drake

Cons: The bathroom needed some attention. The light fixtures were very dusty and there was inadequate ventilation when showering.
A beautiful and historic hotel in Chicago with a wonderfully helpful and courteous staff! The location is amazing...great for access to the beaches on Lake Michigan and/or the shopping and sights of Michigan Avenue.

Excellent location

Pros: Helpful and friendly staff. The room was big, clean and elegant decorated. Excellent location and the tea room is a piece of art. The buffet is great
Cons: A microwave will be great and extra towels.
Location: Any store that you can imaging is next to this hotel. Including the Water Tower. Everything is walking distant. A lot of places to eat.
The checking was fast. The room was clean and elegant. The view was great. The music at the bar and at the tea room was delicate and elegant. The bed was great! I like that the room have a refrigerator, Wi-Fi , and a coffee maker.

Classic Chicago Hotel, Electric Needs Redone.

Pros: Location, charm.
Cons: New electricity in all rooms. Candles in bar area to mask fish smell.
Location: Mag Mile--restaurants, shopping galore.
Great, old world Chicago Hotel. Great X-mas Decorations. Very comfortable beds, updated TVs. However, electricity in our room did not work, many outlets are old and need replaced (even mini-bar fridge did not work). Also, no microwaves in rooms does not help if you bring back food---and you will on the mag mile. Hotel bar also smelled like fish.

The grand old lady is showing her age

I've stayed at the historic Drake many times over many years. There are many reasons it is famous, but while the common areas are still reasonably nice, our room was in bad need of refurbishment. Even worse, when we checked in at 8 pm on a Friday night, we were told our reserved lakeview room wasn't ready! Rather than wait after a long travel day, we accepted a non-lakeview room, and there was no adjustment to the price. Overall, for the price, I think we will try somewhere else next time.

The Drake is not what it used to be...

Pros: The location is one of the best inn the city, onn the north end of the Magnificent Mile
Cons: I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express recently that was far nicer than our room at the Drake that cost $400 per night. We ended up checking out after one night and moving to another hotel. Apparently they are doing renovations, but the room we were given was very dated, terrible mattress, and smelled musty. We asked to change rooms but they didn't have any other rooms available. Perhaps that was because of the Travelocity discount rate, but they didn't even offer to upgrade our room for a charge. The silver linning was we moved to The Langham Hotel and it was fantastic and we will stay there again. We wont go back to the Drake any time soon...

Charming surroundings

The Drake has an old world charm with modern conveniences. The beds/pillows were heaven after a day of walking and shopping. The staff were very helpful and determined to give great service. I would stay at the Drake again.

Timeless Class

The Drake is simply a classy experience beginning to end! Beautiful room, excellent facilities, top notch food, and cocktails crafted to perfection, not the watered down flavorless mess you get elsewhere. I will definitely put the Drake at the top of my list when staying in Chicago!

Very attentive staff! My room was clean and comfortable. A grand old hotel that hasn't lost it's charm and has remained grand.

Nice hotel on Michigan Avenue, close to the lake

Pros: Lake view
Cons: Clean up the rooms in the morning, put out at least 4 bath towels. Clean the shower drains so the customer dosn't have to do it.
Location: At the upper end of the Magnificent Mile, close to the beach and lots of bars, restaurants and shopping. Don't need a car.
Like this hotel because its close to all the action on Michigan Avenue and a short block from Lake Michigan. Few little problems, like not having the room made up until late in the afternoon, shower drain plugged up with hair, not enought towels. But the lounge and Cape Cod restaurant were nice, prices in line with the area. Room 534 has a nice lake view and the halls were fairly quiet at night.
