How to get through airport security fast when traveling to Pittsburgh

These clever tips and pointers about airport security will save you lots of time and energy on your way to Pittsburgh:

  • Be sure you know the location of your passport and boarding pass. You don't want to hold up the line when you're asked to produce them.
  • Keep in mind that belts with metal buckles can set off the body scanner's alarms. If you're wearing one, you may be told to step back and remove it before proceeding.
  • Electronic devices such as laptops, cameras and phones will need to be put through the X-ray machine separately. Be sure you can get to them quickly.
  • When it comes to traveling with liquids or gels, each passenger is allowed a quart-sized clear zip-lock bag to store containers no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).
  • Hiking boots and other bulky shoes are often X-rayed by security personnel. Consider wearing simple sneakers instead.
  • Some destinations have stringent quarantine laws. Consider where you're off to and whether or not you're permitted to fly with fresh fruit and meat.
