Visiting Borrego Springs
Once you touch down at San Diego International Airport (SAN), you may want to board one of the car rental center shuttles and select your own set of wheels. Prefer to reach Borrego Springs via public transportation? Take bus 992 to connect with the trolley's Orange Line, ride to El Cajon Transit Center, and switch to bus 892. You'll be on this bus for nearly three hours, but you will arrive in Borrego Springs itself. If you go the public transit route, you can easily reserve a car rental in Borrego Springs to get around locally. Your first stop should be the gorgeous Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, one of the largest state parks in the country. Enjoy over 100 miles of hiking trails, or see if you can glimpse one of the elusive desert bighorn sheep. Finally, head out to admire the giant metal sculptures in the Galleta Meadows. Don't head back to Borrego Springs motels just yet because Borrego Springs is— in fact— an International Dark Sky Community. Make sure you leave yourself time to just gaze up at the stars, unimpeded by bright city lights.
