A bit disappointing

When we first got to the hotel it looked nice, but when we got to our room, which doesn’t have elevator access to second floor, we found ANTS in the bathroom crawling on the floor and walls. So we get a new room and it was better. Then, we go to check out the pool and hot tub and the pool isn’t heated and the hot tub was not working. The structure itself upon closer inspection was all beat up and run down looking. Better to just pay a little more for a holiday inn or something like that.

Well worth it

The hotel itself including staff was great. The room was clean with plenty of space to move around. The only small issue I had was the door to my room. It was very hard to open and close.

Worst experience at a hotel I've ever had

We had a late check in, when we finally got unpacked and got in bed it was 2:30am. At 3:00am the room next door to us started to blast music with there boombox and have a party. Sounded like there was 10 to 15 people in that room. We called the front desk and they said they would send security up. Security came and left. 5 min later the party restarted. Oh... forgot to mention we had our 6yr old in the room with us. We called the front desk again. They said they would send security back up. But all they got was a phone call. They resumed to party. It's now 3:30am. I have to go to the front desk to ask to be moved. Since they didn't try to kick them out or move them. We had to pack all our stuff and move to the other side of the hotel. Worst experience ever. Finally went to bed at 4:00am. They didn't even offer to comp the room for us. Worst experience ever.

A Good Budget Option

Pros: Price and location and surprisingly quiet because it is set back from the road.
Cons: Security downstairs. Friendlier greeting. Don't ask for a huge deposit up front. No one else does. The exterior (including the paved area).
Location: Right next to a popular pizza place, a bar/restaurant, Costco for gas, and Highway 99. Movie theater a mile away. Very well located.
I got a great deal on a room at the Rosedale on Travelocity ($65/night plus taxes). So, instead of going to the Clarion as I usually do in Bakersfield, I stayed at the Rosedale. The exterior of the hotel is a little worse for wear, but the interior is fairly elegant for a hotel in this class. Likes: 1) I love the little fitness rooms that no one uses -- it is surprisingly well equipped. You won't need a gym. 2) Grand piano in the lobby!, 3) Breakfast included! 4) Walk to a local beer joint/restaurant and stumble back to your room, 5) Clean rooms and quiet, even though close to Highway 99 (ask for a room that does not face the Freeway -- most do not. Dislikes: 1) If you used a debit card, they ask for a $100 deposit -- it's an actual deposit 2) The rooms have antiquated a/c and heating. It works fine and kept me warm, but is dated and not operable from a wall thermostat. 3) The staff is not overly friendly. It doesn't affect your stay -- who cares? But it is indicative of a sort of "slightly run down" air the hotel has. 4) I HATED THE SECURITY ON THE GROUND FLOOR. The sliders are held in place with a normal lock, and then a flimsy, aluminum extra lock that seems really easy to defeat. I had no issue, but I did not feel that secure. Ask for a 2nd floor room.
