"When we checked in, we were asked if the double-bed we signed up for was ok. We said it was. She asked if we wanted a larger bed. I asked if there was a price difference. My wife said that we signed up for a double-bed. So, we were given a first-floor room with a double-bed. While this hotel is rated as 3-star, that room was a 1. It was a terrible room. Spots on carpet, unmaintained room, etc. Also, the first floor halls were not clean, stairwells filthy, garbage cans in stairwells overflowing. It also appeared that people were living on that floor.
I went back to the front desk to say that our room was not acceptable and it was not a 3-star. The woman at the desk said that was the reason that she offered a larger bed. She gave me a temporary key to look at a third-floor room. That room was much better. My wife and I took that room. I went to the front desk again to tell her it was much better. She said that if my wife had not made such a big deal about us wanting what we initially signed up for, she would have put it right away in the better room since, by how we were dressed (I with a suit and my wife in a dress) she knew we would not be happy with the first-floor room.
Why do the clothes someone wears dictate the quality of the room they are paying for?
Why does a 3-star rated hotel (by Travelocity) have 1-star rooms?
This entire situation anger me."
