I rarely write negative reviews, but this stay was so poor that I feel obligated to warn other travelers. Room Condition Was Unacceptable. After checking in and returning to our room later that evening, we discovered the bed was filled with hair from previous guests. There was a large stain on the pillow and multiple dirt stains across the bedding. None of the towels were clean - all had various stains on them. Basic Amenities Failed. The electrical system didn't function properly - we couldn't find a single working outlet to charge our devices overnight, and even the bathroom lighting was non-functional. The walls are extremely thin, making it impossible to get proper rest. Hair from previous guests was scattered across the bathroom floor, indicating poor housekeeping standards. Poor Service Throughout. There was no staff at reception until 3 pm, creating a lengthy queue of guests waiting to check in. When we raised concerns at checkout, rather than acknowledging the issues, the staff member began questioning us defensively. Final Thoughts: This was genuinely the worst hotel experience I've had. The combination of unsanitary conditions, non-functioning amenities, and poor service makes this establishment unsuitable for guests. I will be requesting a full refund and cannot recommend this hotel to anyone.

It took an hour to check in and before we were able to check in there was an incident with the desk clerk and other guests that was really off-putting. The guy working was being really condescending to a British guy who was having issues with his credit cards and another couple checking in stepped in to tell the guy working the desk to be nicer and just help the British gentleman out. The guy working then started arguing and eventually started cussing at the couple that was just trying to help out. Eventually two other employees showed up and one of them was also rude and asked the couple to step outside until it was their time to check in. They tried explaining to this lady that the man working the counter was being unprofessional and cussing at them but the guy then tried gaslighting everyone and saying he didn't yell or cuss at anyone. The couple eventually went outside to wait but then the guy went outside and started fighting with the couple again and so the lady employee went outside and basically took the guy employees side and caused even more of an issue with the couple. A different lady started checking the rest of the guests in and did so very quickly. Once in our room we noticed the closet doors were off of their tracks and just leaning against the shelves, the main light in the room would just flicker, and we had a balcony room but the bush next to the balcony was so overgrown that we couldn't sit outside comfortably. I was also charged twice for the room.

This was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at and the experience was made worse by the manager/owner’s unwillingness to help the situation. We reserved one of the 2-room suites at a very expensive rate expecting a high-end, boutique hotel experience. The website photos were extremely misleading. The bathroom window had broken glass. There was black mold on the ceiling and around the shower/bathtub. The front of the tub was held together with packing tape that also was infiltrated with mold. The master bedroom has a hole in the wall. The kitchenette had a dirty, used sponge and sink that hadn’t been cleaned. The freezer had a 2-inch ice block with debris from the ice tray. The room was generally dirty all together with food stained walls near the kitchenette. The hotel overall could be a cute, eclectic boutique steps from the beach but it is obviously worn down and not well managed.

Worst experience with a hotel. There is a 3 o'clock is check in, however there was no front desk personnel available to assist. There were about six different guests waiting to check-in & we all waited about an hour to have someone walk over and check us in. Overall, waited two hours to checked in. Finally received the room keys, walked over to the suite and the room door was freelj open, beds are not made, previous guests trash has not thrown out, and overall horrendous room. Do not book any rooms at this establishment, will ruin your vacation. Thank me later.

Review of Villa Rosa May 16, 2025

I regret to say that my experience with the Villa Rosa Inn was deeply disappointing and distressing. The first red flag was that no one ever answered or returned my calls when I tried to reach the hotel in advance to request a crib for our room. When we arrived, there was a long line in the lobby, and only one front desk clerk was present. I waited in line for over 30 minutes with my baby, which was already a stressful start. Once I reached the front of the line, the manager informed me that the room I had reserved would not be ready for at least another hour due to staffing issues and a housekeeper walking off the job. While that was not ideal, I was flexible and open to any accommodation that could reasonably fit my family of three. The front desk clerk appeared visibly overwhelmed and, in the middle of assisting me, muttered, “I hate people.” She immediately realized she had said it aloud and tried to walk it back with an apology. I tried to laugh it off, but it was a jarring and unprofessional comment that didn’t inspire confidence. After some time, she provided me with two key cards and directions to a room across the street. I went ahead with my baby to check the room before bringing over my husband and our luggage. To my shock, when I opened the door, the room was already occupied — by a man who was clearly unaware that someone had been issued a key to his room. It was an extremely distressing and unsafe situation, especially as I was holding my baby when it happen

Poorly staffed. Could never find anyone at the front desk to help with problems. Ice machine broken, no one at desk to ask for alternative. First room provided had not been cleaned, beds were slept in and wet towels on the floor. Second room lacked towels. Had to go across the street to a different hotel to get ice. The Continental breakfast was very poor. Out of bread, out of milk, waffle maker filthy with burnt batter. No staff present to assist with anything. Lovely little hotel in a great location terribly managed.

Don’t do it

The customer service is terrible. Don’t bother trying to check in early. They’re literally not there till 3:00 or later. The lady at the front desk speaks her own language, so good luck with that. Breakfast is available… not sure you could call it breakfast, but whatever. Parking?! There is none. Street parking is available, but good luck with that too. You can park at any of the adjacent hotels, which is great… if they didn’t have customers!!! The room wasn’t bad. Actually surprised, we asked for two queens and ended up with what was probably, at one time, a two bedroom apartment adjacent to the property. One of the TVs didn’t work (couldn’t get the WiFi working on it). No soap, shampoo or conditioner in the bathroom, and the refrigerator made a rattling sound all night. Checkout, once again, no one at the front desk and no direction for what to do with your keys. For the price, ok. But seriously, you can’t make up how poor the service was.

PROS -Fantastic location in the heart of downtown. Can walk to Stearns Wharf and State Street within minutes. -Very spacious rooms. Units have full kitchens and living areas even if not mentioned in the room listing. -Friendly and helpful staff (but see below) CONS -Property is overall not well kept up. Being in downtown, it is an old building, but the interior has not been renovated in a long time. The outdoor grounds also could use some rehab. -Cleanliness is an issue. There was a large, visible spider web in the corner of one of the rooms. -Continental breakfast was minimal (although it has a waffle machine). -While friendly, the staff is not very available. They may be very understaffed. Almost every time I needed front desk assistance, I had to wait for someone to come back. One of our 2 rooms wasn't ready on time, even though we checked in an hour after our stated arrival time. It was eventually not ready until about 9pm that night. -The price posted on Expedia was not the total cost. When checking in, they added additional fees that added about $50 extra for the 2 rooms I reserved. Not happy about that.
