"Not Bad for the Price"
Hotel clerk was not very helpful and I didn't get a good vibe, like he didn't like me. I was friendly. Room was fairly clean, just a little mold in the tile grout. Bed was kind of hard. They only have 2 double beds or 1 King, no 2 queen rooms. No rollaway beds. Yuck! Grounds, hallways and lobby were pretty clean. For the price, an excellent deal around San Francisco. We will return considering the price.

"Fine hotel for the downtown area "
The hotel is located in the downtown 'but' on the edge of The Tenderloin. As long as you walk toward the main downtown area, it's a great location at a reasonable price. Staff was great and accommodating. Convenience store and Walgreen's across the street. Room was on the smaller side but totally adequate and comfortable. A little 'funky' in decor but certainly interesting and unique.

"Great Place to Stay just off Union Square"
We stay for a few days every year when we come for the San Francisco Ballet & San Francisco Symphony performance of The Nut Cracker. Rooms and bathrooms are on the small side but that's no issue for us. Short walk to China Town. Hotel Staff EXCELLENT and remember us even though we visit only once a year. Beware of Morton's next door.

"Adventures in San Francisco"
The Diva is close to Union Square, where you want to be. The staff is very courteous and helpful with recommendations and directions. The rooms and bathrooms are on the smaller side but remember this is an older building in SF as most hotels in the area are smaller in square footage. The best thing is there's a Starbucks right next door to grab a quick coffee and breakfast sandwich before heading out and sight seeing thru the city. It is a bit pricey for the size of the room your getting but otherwise if it really matters, there's also the Marriott, Westin and Sheraton close by.

"Cute vintage hotel "
It's a cute hotel, room was small but clean and comfy beds. Hotel offers no breakfast or room service but everything is walking distance. The attached restaurant is good but pricey and not a place for kids due to long waiting for service and food. The gym had two treadmills both broken. Two ellipticals one broken and the other slightly made some bumping noise. The parking is pricey and 50 - day for an SUV size vehicle. However the staff in the garage are the fastest workers I've seen, pretty much no waiting for your car, they were very friendly too. The location is great. Two or three blocks from cable car and main shopping.

"Fabulous location at the heart of the city. "
Ok, seriously this really is a great location at the heart of the city. As a newer hotel it is in "new" condition which offers not only high quality details but it also newer technology. The staff was very attentive. I strongly recommend this hotel. I think you'll enjoy it as much as I did with my family.

"Great price, great place, great location"
My only complaint was the noise level. I'm from the country though so it might not be valid. When people went up and Dian the stairs it was loud in our room, and the outside noise from people going through the trash and so forth was a bit distracting. Another minor downfall was that the restraunt and bar were closed for remodel and I purchased breakfast for each day. We were able to go to Roxannes cafe on the corner though and we really enjoyed it there. This was a great place I really enjoyed it. Two blocks walk from Union Square, two blocks walk to China Town. As a woman, I felt safe here, and that wouldn't have been the case in many places that I seen on our trip. I'm very glad we chose this hotel for our honeymoon, we'll be back.

This hotel was very different from what we used to staying in. It was very charming. Sharing a bath and shower wasn't as bad as think it would be. It is very centrally located and you can't beat the price. You park the car in the garage and never have to move it again. The staff was amazing!! I would definitely recommend it an stay there again.

San Francisco Pet Friendly Hotel Guide

It’s nice to have time to yourself while traveling. No one to bother you. No one to ask you pesky questions about your future goals. Just you and your own thoughts. But hey, it doesn’t hurt to have a friend along for the journey. A friend who never disagrees with you and thinks the universe revolves around you. One who can melt your heart with a stare from those puppy-dog eyes. And when you’re ready to take a trip, northern California’s most beloved city is perfect for the two of you. Go for a walk through Fisherman’s Wharf where the seals bark louder than your pooch and then ride the cables throughout town. Our dog friendly hotels in San Francisco like the Hotel Zephyr will be a safe haven to unwind after a long day running around the “City by the Bay.”

Can you swim in San Francisco Bay?

Yes, you can swim in San Francisco Bay and bring the dog. Don a pair of swimming trunks and make your way down to Aquatic Park Historic District and set up your beach camp in the sand. When you’re ready to get wet, wander into the man-made lagoon where you’ll be able to swim in the cool water alongside a steel-hulled full rigged ship called the Balclutha. Go for a few laps and let any stress you have drift away with the current.

It’s easy to swim around a man-made, protected lagoon. The water is calm and the current is minimal. But if you’re feeling extremely adventurous in the sense that you feel like freestyling in the open water of the bay, there are ways. There are a number of swim clubs located throughout the city that host Alcatraz swims year-round and they offer you a great way to test yourself against forces of Mother Nature. Two of the best known swims are put on by the Dolphin Club and the South End Rowing Club. When you finally emerge from the chilly waters, what’s better than curling up with Spot back at one of our pet friendly hotels in San Francisco?

Any advice on how to ride the trolley in San Francisco and is it pet-friendly?

The only way to ride the trolley in San Francisco is to get a pass and board one of the most iconic forms of public transportation—and yes, they are pet friendly. There are three different cable car lines you can take around the city:

    • The Powell-Hyde Line: Start on Market Street with a stop in Union Square. The Powell-Hyde takes you through the Russian Hill neighborhood and passes at the top of the topsy-turvy Lombard Street.
    • The Powell Mason Line: This runs through the North Beach neighborhood and passes at the bottom of Lombard Street. Plenty of photo opportunities abound.
    • The California-Van Ness Line: The third line runs east to west from the Financial District and cruises through Nob Hill. Hop off at the California Street stop and check out the Cable Car Museum.

Do you know what would make your trip to The Paris of the West that much better? Bringing along your most-trusted four-legged friend. Travelocity’s great selection of San Francisco pet friendly hotels like the Handlery Union Square are more than suitable to keep you and your best friend cozy and comfortable.
