Beautiful resort with great food and beach

We have visited the area several times and generally stay at adult only resorts. We tried something new and went to barcelo Maya palace, and I'm thrilled that we did. The resort is beautiful, the rooms are nice and comfortable, the pools are huge and very nice, the ocean water is gorgeous and the most important for us....the restaurants were excellent! The 3 dinner restaurants at Maya palace are the best in the entire resort property. We didn't have kids with us, but there was a ton of things for kids to do and their pool looked fun. The only negative thing we have with the resort is that the actual beach could use some more sand. The actual beach is decently rocky...however the ocean part is smooth sand and clear waters. I would definitely recommend this resort!

2nd time back but won't repeat

Pros: Buffet.
Cons: Water activities, dining options and food taste, rooms and so called resort credit. Activities/entertainment.
Location: Xel-Ha, service and the experience was amazing. Highly recommend it if you're a nature lover.
I've stayed in Barcelo Palace in 2014 and my experience was much more pleasant back then. Dining options at Ala cart restaurants were very limited this time, and booking them at the right time was almost impossible. Resort is huge and water activities are very limited and inconvenient, specially when you have to walk back and forth for 15 minutes each way, wait in line which gets full because of limited supply, and find out you have to pop up each morning to make a reservation for a catamaran. Tropical hotel beach-side restaurant manager was so rude when I tried to carry out a fruit plate during lunch hour, he stopped me in a very rude and Arrogant Manner. Service is nice specially when you're tipping them. No beach-side service, and lot of parts of the beach are pretty rocky. Rooms at Palace are getting tired and AC units need improvement as well. Food taste went down as well, lobster at French restaurant was overcooked and no taste. $1000.00 Resort credit is so lame, it feels like a fluff and almost useless. Had much better activities and food options at another resort with initial I.

Beautiful facility, pool and on top of beach

Stayed at Barcelo Palace, which appeared to be a nicer phase in the complex...not a great Travelocity value and they messed up our flights... however....Fabulous immaculately maintained facilities. Great pool area entertainment and fitness staff. Pool is out of this world and very inviting. Pool bar heavily used by my group! Food spread and table service is terrific, however, food prep quality can be spotty. Great array of restaurants, again quality is inconsistent. I would go again.

barcelo palace a nice hotel great beach

We were very happy with the location and the beach is arm's length away. The food and drink at the Palace are top shelf. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our only caution to others is - prepare yourself for a really long check in process. Greatly under staffed at this position! That is their first point of contact, so managing that position better should be a priority! Two hours in line to check in takes away from the bang they could have in a first impression. The way they advertise the hotel credit is very misleading! You get $1000 USC credit but when you get there they explain it comes in the form of 25% off of additional purchases of hotel services (spa). Straight forward is a better way to go!!!! These two negatives are had up front which takes away from what they have to offer. Great looking, clean hotel with fantastic beaches and an assortment of activities! Whether it's relaxing or charged up activities its there or nearby.

Very nice and clean property, very friendly staff, great service in restaurants and buffet. Love the beach but needs more sand and in some spots was hard to enter because of the rocks. Overall it was very nice. We went to this resort 6 times and I can tell that food variety and quality got a little worse.

December get away

Pros: Cleanliness, attentive staff, good food
Cons: Check in process
Location: We stayed on the resort as there is plenty to do without leaving.
We have stayed here 4 years in a row. The facility is great. The staff is extremely attentive. The facility could not be cleaner. The only issue we had was slow check in process.

Beautiful maintained hotel, looks very nice

Pros: the beach, the pools, the buildings, the set up, the ammenities etc
Cons: I felt a little too pressure to attend a Members meeting, just a little too much.
Location: too many to enumerate....
All is nice and inviting, facilities of the best quality. staff is wonderful!!!!

Too big, no activities, a lot of walking

The food was disgusting, even though it's all inclusive they charge for every little thing and expect tips. Every thing is so far apart. Long walk from your room to the pool and beach and to the restaurants. No night life action. It's shut down except lobby bar by 9. I hD to change my room it was so many ants. When I changed my room To a different room I had a cup of soda at night that was filled with ants. Worst vacation I've ever had. I will. Never stay st a Barcelo maya deluxe palace resort again
