TERRIBLE HOTEL

Awful stay at the Riu. The rooms were not clean at all and unsanitary. Staff was disrespectful and only one elevator was working during my stay. Will never come back

One elevator was broken so going up and down to the room was a pain. Our room smelled like a bad disinfectant. The front staff was inconsistent, some very nice, some not so much. The breakfast buffet was terrific. Having close access to the beach was great. The head valet person was very aggressive about asking for a big tip.

Love this hotel. The only thing stopping me from 5 star rating is the fact that breakfast ends at 10 am. It’s too early and we always feel rushed. Should be extended until10:30 or 11 am. Also, I wish the key cards could be activated with your own cel or if there was a self activation area. They are easily demagnetized when close to any electronics or credit cards. Line ups can be long at the front desk when people are checking in.

The third party shuttle and tour service offered in the lobby was very disappointing and not to be trusted. The front desk staff were sadly apathetic and unhelpful. The poolside service and staff at the restaurants were very good. A welcome change from the experience otherwise.

Not the usual Riu standard

We stayed here for 4 days before a cruise, photos looked like the hotel was to the usual Riu good standards however we were most disappointed. We found the room and hotel quite tired looking and in need updating. The sun loungers on the beach need replacing, we had broken beds, one day had beds with chewing gum stuck to them! The food was ok, we only had breakfast but found it repetitive after the few days. The evening buffet was quite expensive and found it better / easier to walk out to other local restaurants. Overall quite disappointing for a hotel chain that we have stayed in before and had great experiences.

Great stay

Loved the large warm pool, the beach front chairs and umbrellas, and the extensive breakfast buffet. Our room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. Great staff. We took advantage of the 25% first night evening buffet discount, and it was excellent. The chicken at the carving station was very tender, and all the other dishes, vegetables, salads, and desserts were great. The only items to take note of are that: - the outdoor restaurant and bar seating seems to allow smoking, so even though there are few smokers these days, if you are a non-smoker you might want to sit on the upwind side. - the pool closes at 6 and gets pretty crowded in the afternoon but is warm and almost empty in the morning so is great for lap swimming. - you may experience a several minute wait for the 3 elevators during busy parts of the day, so if you are coming down from the 5th floor or so during mealtimes you might want to consider using the stairs. - the boardwalk is lovely to walk on but be sure to stay to the far right to avoid bicyclists, skateboarders, and joggers. - most museums are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Nice hotel right on the beach.

Nice hotel with great pool right on the beach. Buses, i.e. the trolley, regular buses (e.g. To Ventura Mall) and the Big Bus hop-on hop-off stops right outside the hotel. Breakfast was further good with a great selection. Lift capacity can be a challenge in the morning but not a dealbreaker.

Upon check in, I printed out my expedia receipt showing "paid in full" to Expedia, but Expedia did not pay the hotel so I paid at the hotel too. The food at the breakfast buffet was cold and 250 people using the same serving spoon. When I asked where I could find hand sanitizer I was told "we do not offer that". $500.00 per night and the TV in the room was all spanish and when I asked for help at the front desk, they sent a Spanish speaking man who shrugged and left. when I asked him to show me the TV. There are a lot of nicer hotels for the money in Miami Beach, keep searching.

wayyyyyyy too many kids, also got drinks charged to my card in addition to them being charged to the room which made no sense why i had to pay double for that. 3 elevators is not enough. lobby bathrooms were dirty. front desk staff feel entitled for some reason. other than that free breakfast was good. location is inconvenient but beach was very peaceful. also need more beach chairs. not sure why they havnt thought of that bc it was always packed
