Concord Vacations
Although it shares a name with several other Concords, this California city should not be confused with its East Coast equivalents. Located in the San Francisco Bay Area, Concord is a well-populated hub for family fun. Vacation packages in Concord will give visitors a glimpse of the East Bay, both past and present.
Major Attractions
Downtown, Todos Santos Plaza takes up a whole city block. It's known for weekly farmers markets, free movies, and free concerts. It is also the center of the revitalized downtown area that is home to many of the restaurants, shops, and hotels in Concord. Those interested in Concord's past may find the Concord Historical Museum interesting. Home of the Historical Society, it resides in the restored Galindo House. Other attractions include Pixieland, an amusement park geared toward young children, and the Markham Regional Arboretum for those inclined to the outdoors. There's also Dave Brubeck Park, which was named after the jazz musician, a notable Concord resident.
Recurring Festivals and Events
Concord vacations have to include at least a little bit of music, as the warmer months always usher in a plethora of free regular events in the heart of town. The Concord Jazz Festival has been an annual tradition since 1969, when Concord resident Carl Jefferson founded it. It has since welcomed such esteemed artists as Ella Fitzgerald and Oscar Peterson to the stage. The success of the festival ultimately led to the creation of the Concord Pavilion, an event venue that now holds up to 12,500 attendees for concerts and local community events. Every Tuesday in July is blues night, and the Music and Market series brings live music to the Thursday night farmers market every week from May through September. The other farmers market (yes, there are two!) runs year-round on Tuesday mornings, as well.
