Nice Hotel close to the University of California.

Pros: Proximity to UC, Berkeley. Has great swimming pool. Has tennis courts if you play.
Cons: Flexibility on price when you have a customer who wants to stay an extra day.
Location: Cal football and basketball games. Visit U.C., Berkeley. See what all the Nobel Prizes are about. Close to Oakland and Frisco. Views.
I initially booked one night via travelocity. On check out morning I asked if I could stay an extra night for same price. (This after the registration desk the night before said they had a lot of empty rooms in case I wanted to add an extra night.) The woman behind the desk said I would have to pay the new (and higher) rate. Well, the ~ $100 higher rate did not comfort my fiscal prudence, so I said, "Thank you, no", checked out and went to a 1/3rd cheaper hotel which I was completely satisfied with. I guess the Claremont would prefer an empty room to > $250.

A beautiful vintage hotel in a lovely setting!

Pros: Close restaurants
Cons: No free Internet, Noisy
A lovely getaway destination near the college 'goings on' at Berkeley and just a walk away to College Street. Nestled on a hill overlooking views of the bay, the Golden Gate Bridge and surrounded by homes with craftsman architecture and blooming gardens, one can relax with all the expected amenities of a high class vintage hotel. The wines meet the expectations of a California hotel, although the food was mediocre. This may not be too disappointing, as there are many ethnic restaurants just a stroll away. Ask for a quiet room away from the elevator and storage rooms unless night time noise does not interrupt your sleep. The staff is courteous and the hotel is clean.

Classic hotel...wonderful and charming

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet, classic, free fitness classes, sf bay view, tennis courts
there are only a few truly classic hotels in California. The Coronado in San Diego, Fairmont in SF, etc. The Claremont belongs in this group. Wonderful hotel, amazing service, close walk to some neighborhood restaurants, coffee house, bakery, shops, resort grounds with fitness center, free workout classes (yoga, etc), great restaurants. Amazing.

Beautiful, relaxing hotel

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet
The Claremont pairs a historic building with modern facilities. It certainly has a classic feel you won't get from most other hotels in the states. Sadly, I didn't have much time to spend enjoying the hotel's amenities as I was in town on business. I did take a quick tour and thought the tennis courts and fitness areas were very nice. I did visit both restaurants in the resort and the food was delicious. My first visit was during the brunch buffet, which was very popular. I (foolishly?) ordered from the menu so it took a bit longer than I'd have hoped for my meal to arrive. The staff noticed quickly that I'd been waiting and both my server and a manager apologized without my even mentioning it. When the meal was over they even refused to let me pay because of the wait! My whole stay at the Claremont left me feeling like an honored guest. The decor, history, and great views of the bay set the stage but the staff's attention to detail is really what brought it home. I'd recommend them to anyone who needs to feel like a king of queen for their vacation.

This hotel is one of my favorites, it is very special.

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet, convenient location, allows pets
What a pleasure it is to stay at the Claremont! The setting is beautiful and private. I have stayed there many times and the guest rooms are always comfortable and immaculate. The lighting in the bathrooms is very good, you can actually see to apply your make-up! The staff is very accommodating and deliver excellent service while remaining low-key and unobtrusive. The restaurants and bar are very well run. The lobby is spacious and inviting with great shops. There is a beautiful sun room area off the lobby that is a nice spot to sip coffee and read. The pool, exercise rooms and spa have everything to complete a perfect vacation.

I stayed by myself for a few days. It felt very comfortable.

Pros: Close restaurants, spa
The fact that I stayed by myself because my friend cancelled at the last minute was monumental. It felt very safe, and I particularly enjoyed the spa amenities, workouts, massage etc. Would definitely recommend it. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
