The air smelt unclean everywhere even in our room. Old and outdated for decades it seemed

Not what I was expecting

Hotel is old , they could use some upgrades. no coffee maker in room! I have never been to any hotel that doesn't at least have a coffee maker. My bathroom was old and toilet was stained with rust and looked dirty, went to pull a tissue out of tissue holder and the whole thing fell on the floor. AC did not work that great. It was so hot as we were on the 14th floor and the ac was loud , kept us up at night and barley pushed out cool air. Maybe I just had an older non upgraded room? Last but not least we were downstairs playing the machines for at least 2 hours and not once did someone ask if we wanted a drink. We also visited circus circus for a few hours and were offered 3 drinks. Not sure if I would stay here again! How ever I would like to say that the staff was extremely nice and helpful if we had questions about the Reno area and things to do when we approached them . The staff was the only bonus to this trip.

Won't stay here again

A man way laying in front of the elevator door with a backpack taking a nap and charging his 2 cell phones on our floor. Didn't feel so safe here.

This place is really bad!

Pros: I'm not trying to be mean - but the best thing about this hotel was seeing it in the rear view mirror.
Most of the challenges we encounter stemmed from the age and neglect of the property, while others were either poor management or lack of interest. 1. The desk chair had nails sticking out of the side. I didn’t notice it, leaned against, the nails caught my t-shirt and ripped 3 holes in it. Luckily, I felt a tug and stopped – had I continued forward the nails would have cut my skin. 2. No hot water – lukewarm only. 3. The heat lamp in the bathroom was on and could not be turned off. As we were leaving for the day, we asked the front desk to send maintenance to fix the above, came back and nothing had changed. The next morning – we wished for lukewarm water to shower with - today it’s cold. We called maintenance directly – they said it might be the boiler, they would check it out and let us know. An hour went by and no update and worse yet, still no hot water. While we wait, we start to add up the problems and are frustrated: we’re in a non-smoking room – but around/next to us were smoking rooms so smoke was coming in the room, housekeeping was bad, lumpy mattress & 1 thin blanket on the bed, no hot water, we couldn’t use the chair at the desk, add'l hotel fee, etc. We were to stay 3 nights but took cold showers and checked out. Prior to leaving - we called mgmt. about the chair and ruined shirt – our biggest concern was the chair not being replaced/fixed and the next guest having a child that would run into the nails. Filed formal complaint and headed home.

The Entire Property Needs Cleaning and Updating!

I've never reviewed a business before but I feel that I have an obligation to warn others. I've stayed at other Reno casino hotels in the past. I chose this hotel because it was about $50 cheaper than the competitors. MY MISTAKE, PAY THE MONEY!! The Sands Regency was was very dirty and unkempt. The parking lot, hotel entrance, casino, hotel hallways and restaurants were dirty...especially the floors. The tile floors in the casino and in Mel's Diner were badly in need of mopping. The carpets in the hallways were stained. Garbage cans in the hallways overflowed with garbage. The guest room hallways had piles of dirty linen thrown in the corners. My room was somewhat clean. The wallpaper in my "updated room" had tears and the windows were filthy. The tub had a dirty residue and the shower water was lukewarm at best. After my one night stay, I went to breakfast at a different (clean) casino hotel and quickly remembered why I will never return to the sandy, "Sands Regency." The pictures on Travelocity are very misleading. In their defense, The staff was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the physical condition of this hotel is unacceptable. I would not recommend this hotel to ANYONE!

Cheap hotel but weird security and bad timing

My friends and I stayed here because it was a really great deal for Reno and it had great reviews. Unfortunately we had some strange interactions that made the stay not so great. First the pros though. It was cheap (50 bucks). The room was clean and the beds comfy. They have some great amenities like Mel's Diner and a taco place that was awesome. Less great was that we arrived when there was a special function at the pool so it was sort of hard to have a good time with the large crowd at the only pool (and it isn't that big really). We were out there for about 2 hours and we're never able to get in the whirlpool either. The pool in the summer was really a selling point on the property for us so not using it was a bummer. The other thing that was weird was that they let my friend who was sharing my room check into the room without asking for ID or credit card but then another friend wasn't able to get an additional room key despite paying for the room because she wasn't the primary name on the account. Same hotel staff member. Parking was also a little tricky but manageable. Not the worst experience, but may consider other slightly more expensive options if we return to Reno and call ahead to see if there are special events going on.

affordable and comfortable, then became the Playa

Clean and comfortable big rooms, stayed twice in a week, buffet good, casino was smoky and old fashioned but the rooms, comfortable pool and staff makes up for it. It was a cultural diversity and socio economic spectrum different than what we saw on our tour of 6 casino/resorts. Fun party with burning man guests who returned from the playa poolside.
