The hotel, for being older, is nice. Our room was comfortable and roomy enough for 2. When we arrived the room was somewhat clean. There was a glove left behind and the shower curtain had a foul smell. The staff was friendly and helpful, but it was hard to ingnore the protesting that was going on. We were woken up each morning right at 7:00 o’clock to someone on a bullhorn, protesters chanting and drumming. The protesters didn’t bother us as we were entering or leaving the hotel except for on the last day when we were trying to drive in to get our luggage. One of the protesters was purposely standing in the driveway talking to another protester on the other side. I think it would’ve been helpful if Travelocity would let its customers know if there was something as this going on. I do suggest this hotel due to its location and historical beauty, just make sure the employee strike is over. I’m sure our room would’ve been cleaner if it wasn’t for shortage of employees.

Aloha, Mahalo for choosing to stay with us at the Moana Surfrider, the First Lady of Waikiki. We apologize that your stay was less than enjoyable due to the labor disruption which included the noise levels. On the other hand, we are delighted to hear that despite this you had enjoyed the Moana's central location and historic charm. We do hope to welcome you back one day in the future so you may enjoy the true Moana experience. Mahalo, Karen W. Guest Experience Team

Somewhat comfortable

Pros: On the ocean; beautiful lobby, great location; staff friendly and helpful.
Cons: Clean the rooms better. Pay your staff higher wages and get better cleaners.
Location: Tons of shopping and restaurants. Many places to spend your hard-earned cash.
We had an ocean view and a tiny balcony. Balcony would not fit a chair of any kind. The beds had deep depressions - not comfortable. The bedding was clean and soft. The towels were sticky feeling and not clean. One bath towel had deep dirty smudges all over it. The shower was not clean. The top of the desk was extremely dusty. Their was a wad of hair stuck under the electronic notepad provided by the hotel. yuck. The bathroom is small and there is no where to set your toothbrush, etc. On our first night the people in the room next door yelled and screamed until 4:00 a.m. On our last night a family with two very small children arrived at 10 pm. Their kids cried and yelled and the Mom made it worse by yelling and screaming back. I asked them to keep quiet. They did not apologize, just shut the door in my face. I was polite; they were not. The hotel lobby is beautiful; fresh flowers and plants everywhere. The rooms are not that great. The food is EXTREMELY expensive and not that good. Don't eat here. Explore the restaurants all around the hotel within walking distance. Great location, but again, if the room had been cleaner, they would get a higher rating.

Beautiful old hotel. Pity about the queue.

Pros: Beauty (old hotel) and location (right on beach).
Cons: More front desk staff. Queues on every day at all times. We had to wait 30 mins to check in and 20 mins just to checkout.
Location: Waikiki is excellent. Beach. Try Roys or Toaramini for restaurants.
This is a beautiful old hotel right on the beach in Waikiki. Most is good - including location, hotel and rooms. Only negatives are: * Huge queues for check in and check out (they really need more front desk staff). After a long flight its torture. * Rooms are tight on the small size. Maybe to be expected for old hotel. Note to management: Fix the bug in express check out to allow people entitled to late checkout to express check out. If you are having staffing problems as you obviously are, this would help.

Great Hawaiian hospitality.

Customer service at this hotel was excellent. Location on beach was excellent, close to many shops and restaurants. We received a complimentary family photo shoot and 3 pics as part of our resort fee. Staff held our bags all afternoon after check out and gave us use of a hospitality room to shower and freshen up before our flight at 10pm. Also a historic hotel in Waikiki. Highly recommend.

Too pricey, but for what?

The parking attendants were not unless you looked like you had money We did not get our leis upon arrival as did everyone else, on the parking ticket it requested that you call before getting your car, I did but when I went to get the car, they acted as though that was the first they heard of it and did not have it up front When I talked to the man at the restaurant he answered our questions curtly and acted as though we were bothering him Activities person did not seemed to happy to help Front desk people, two men, I dealt with were inviting and nice especially the one thst checked me in I dont understand resort fees, what do they cover? I saw nothing special, use to be whatever was at the hotel was included in the room rate Hot and humid in lobby,I know the doors were open but does no one know about ceiling fans in hawaii?

The Surfrider Moana Hotel, Waikiki

Pros: Hotel Staff Poolside service Well equipped gym - great hours,
Cons: Television remote did not work easily (who has time to watch tv in Hawaii anyway)
Location: Near dozens of restaurants (including hotel restaurants) On the beach - you can't get closer (no streets to cross)
For the second consecutive year my sisters and I stayed at the beautiful Surfrider Moana Hotel on Waikiki. The hotel's location is just perfect - right in the middle of everything. The staff is outstanding - very helpful and they go above and beyond to be accommodating. The rooms were very clean and well stocked with all of the necessary ammentities. Bed linen so comfortable - just like in a spa! I've stayed at other Hawaiian hotels, and this is by far the BEST! I would recommend it to anyone.

Beautiful historical hotel right on the beach.

Moana Surfrider is top class. If you want the finest accomodations then this is your stay. The beachside bar is pure therapy with live music and breaking waves to serenade you. Tranquility at its best.

I stayed last month from dec 16 to dec 21 I bought ocean view and they gave me another room, view street and ocean, I called to the front and they told me I was in the right room, I had my reservation sheet and I went with them I showed and they told me if you want the ocean view room they charge me another $ 30.00 per night. The swimming pool is very sad and small. The house keeping not vaccuming. If you want to use the gym is extra charge. Not information in the restaurant, price and menu,  For me this hotel next time shoul be the last opcion.
