The Moana Surfrider is a historic & beautiful hotel. The location is great. Staff were very helpful and courteous. We stayed at the north end of the original building. The level of noise from outside the hotel was pretty intense.

Moana Surfrider: A Dreamlike Stay with a Few Budget Notes Staying at the Moana Surfrider felt like stepping into a dream. The hotel is stunning—elegant, pristine, and peaceful. Every detail, from the professionalism of the staff to the serene atmosphere, exceeded my hopes. It’s the kind of place that wraps you in beauty and calm, and I truly can’t imagine staying anywhere else. That said, for future guests: be aware of a couple of daily charges that aren’t always front and center. There’s a $45 daily hotel fee for amenities, and valet parking is $65 per day with no self-parking option. Valet is available 24/7, but plan for a 10–20 minute wait when retrieving your car. These costs were within our budget and didn’t detract from the experience, but they could be surprising if you’re not expecting them. I share this not as a complaint, but as a heads-up—because this place is worth every moment, and I’d return in a heartbeat.

There were no king size beds available upon arrival so my partner and I had to sleep in separate beds. Which sucks for a romantic weekend. The pool and bar were over crowded. There were birds constantly by the pool area eating food from the ground. Means and food were extremely overpriced and charged a resort fee of $150 in addition to the $2k we already paid. Would not recommend. Will be my first and last time in Hawaii

Beautiful Hotel. Staff provided excellent service even before we arrived by welcoming us in advance and inquiring as to any special requirements or celebrations. Checkin desk was aware of our response and did an amazing job of making our welcome special. The hotel is beautifully maintained and the service exceptional. The concierge desk helped us with tour arrangements and made a real difference to our stay. Thank you thank you!!

Great location and good common areas but bedrooms are dated. Surface mounted metal conduit (going rusty). Tiny bathroom (if partner was in it you would hit them when opening the door). Concrete ceilings, beams and columns still with the shuttering marks just painted over. Not terrible but could do with modernising.

I had an exceptional stay at Moana Surfrider. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, attentive, and seamless. The check-in process was quick, and the front desk staff made us feel immediately welcome. The room was clean and roomy, with a comfortable bed. The view from our room overlooking the Main Street was a little loud but did not impact our sleep. We actually like a little noise. Location-wise, the hotel is perfectly situated—within walking distance to restaurants and shopping. Overall, I highly recommend the Moana Surfrider. It’s a place where hospitality, comfort, and quality come together nicely. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful hotel right on the beach and conveniently located to all Waikīkī has to offer. With that said, the rooms in the older part of the hotel show their age—small bathroom, door to balcony wouldn’t open. Nevertheless, the bed was very comfortable and the room was clean and housekeeping was great.

The room was very clean and well appointed. Having staff service our room each day was lovely. Our room faced the busy street, however we did not hear the street noise, even on a busy street festival night.

The elevators were broken the entire week we stayed there, and it took us 15-20 minutes every time we wanted to go in or out. The cleaning service was terrible—we had to ask multiple times for cleaners to come back, and even then, they didn’t clean properly. The hotel is very old, poorly maintained, and overall, we will definitely never stay here again.

Pay for the view

The most amazing view from our oceanfront room. Room service / daily cleaning was pretty poor given the standard of the hotel and cost of the stay - you definitely pay for the view and not the room. Great facilities and entertainment at the hotel. Room itself was quite dated.
