"Nice hotel close to beach and Newport attractions"
Atlantic suites are exactly that. The rooms have two king beds with a divider wall between, a small kitchenette, nice bath, sofa (sleeper but the layout doesn't allow space to open), a desk, closet and some clothing storage in end tables. The views are great, either of the ocean, or the bay behind. Proximity to the beach, cliff walk, and Newport is quite convenient. Our group used 5 rooms. 3/5 had issues with the heating system. Two were relocated to other rooms, ours we had a service call and everything was pronounced okay. It was brutally cold during our visit, having just turned from Indian Summer to Winter. When we arrived on Friday, the heat in our room was off and the windows cracked open. When we turned the heat on, it went right to the max 90F. We dialed the heat down to 72F and left for town. When we returned several hours later, the room was warm, but on the chilly side. We turned the heat back up to 90F and slept okay (the Atlantic does have thick, warm comforters and bedding). By the morning, the room we would guess was around mid-to-high 60s. Sat. night after dinner (try the Black Pearl!) the room was comfortable, but by the middle of the night -- you guessed it -- the heat hit 90F. We dialed it back to 80F, then 75F, then 70F, and then all was well. Bottom line: the systems used at Atlantic have a slow recovery rate. If you are visiting going into a cool spell, you would do well to ask that the heat be turned on in advance.

"Historical Hotel Newport with a view to kill!"
The hotel still has its luxurious feeling of the past but it obviously has fallen into the pool of a declining economy places. The bar and dining area has a view to kill for but unfortunately has been inoperative for over a year looking for a new lessee. Great indoor pool, two jacuzzis, the one on the terrace has that awesome view as well as the patio area. Hope they can keep it up. It would be a shame to let it go... Because the dining room is closed they recommended several places which would give us a discount. We chose Flo's, an institution for clams next door. Best lobster roll, really, all lobster! Thanks to the staff, friendly and helpful!

"hmmmmmm.... meh?"
i have been staying in newport for 20 years and mostly at the viking. almost 46 years old now, having seen more of the world and staying there again with wiser eyes...... its definitely overpriced - but you pay too much in newport across the board. the room was excellent - no complaints there; well except that there was a trickle of water coming from the sink and a leak from the ceiling. but sun blocking shades, A/C that cut through the worst hot, hazy, and humid summer day, and a really comfy bed - i was very happy with the room. the hotel is gorgeous from the outside, but the lobby and restaurant lack the grandeur that the exterior makes me expect. The ballroom is shameful compared to other hotels of this nature - and after all, this was built by the Vanderbuilts AND it is Newport - I guess the Vanderbuilts considered their home "the ballroom" and didnt need one in the hotel. Any who. The pool, warm. The pool room, warm. Eck... The weight room, very warm. The spa, down in the pool and weight room area - so not enticing. To me, much like most everywhere we went in Newport, seemed overused by enormous volume and unkept / some areas called to be renovated / improved.

"One night stay, double room"
The hotel is in the middle of renovations. We did stayed on a long weekend so we didn't hear any construction noise. We were able to check in quickly, and they called when our room was ready. The location was perfect for us, near family houses, but within a 5 min drive to the best restaurants around! The room was very clean, and decor was a little old but this is not a brand new W hotel! This is an Inn so you have to understand what style of place you are staying in. The double beds were doubles and not quite Full's so you can share with a child but two adults can not. The best part of the hotel was the pool! What a surprise! It was a large indoor salt water pool and spa. The room has wonderful views of the water and tall ceilings with sky lights. The breakfast had mini muffins, small lenders bagels, english muffins, cereals, a pancake machine, scrabbled eggs, bacon and sausage.

"Anniversary weekend"
The location was nice, the hotel was nice. We went to Newport for our anniversary but we feel the price of the hotel stay for one night was a little too overpriced. We did not get complimentary breakfast which is fine, but with the amount of money we paid it would have been nice. We didn't have a restaurant menu in the room (which we looked for) and the door to our room was hard to shut.
