"A Cute Boutiquey Whyte Ave Hotel"
The Varscona is unique! It conveniently has a Second Cup located at the bottom of it, in addition to a Pub and an upscale Canadian restaurant. The beds are comfortable, they have flat screen tv's in each room and an ihome audio alarm clocks next to the beds which is convenient for iphone users like myself. I loved the fact that I was greeted by European scenery on the flat screen tv! I found that to be so original! What made my stay phenomenal though was the staff! Every person that I spoke with, from the bell man to the maids, were all nice and went out of their way to say hello and make sure that I had everything I needed. The rooms were clean and I enjoyed the waffles in the morning, in addition to the free newspapers. I heard rumors that the hotel will be undergoing some changes in the up and coming months, and I am looking forward to seeing what this boutiquey hotel brand comes up with next! Thanks for making my trip to Edmonton a great one!

"VERY nice hotel. Yes, it's a bit rough around the edges."
This is still a VERY nice hotel - comfortable, quiet rooms, heat works (quietly, no less!), good staff, and premium location. In mid-winter, paying $23/night for heated downtown parking was not an annoyance. Paying extra for "premium" wireless internet service WAS annoying (the free service was very slow). The bathroom could have used some grout work and paint touchup. Yes, the TV was sad, old, and bulky, but the picture was fine. The Christmas season is a great time to stay at this hotel, especially if you want to shop or sightsee downtown.
