"Very nice hotel. Staff very friendly. "
Outstanding resort. very clean rooms. Staff very friendly and accomodating. Would recommend to anyone. the pool bar prepared very good drinks. We did notice that if you had an all inclusive package, the drinks were much weaker. Our daughter and husband had all inclusive package and we tasted their drinks compared to ours. Big difference. Only issues were with food. Breakfast always good. Buffet excellent although pricey. Evening Buffet out in pool area was worst food in complex. Meat was tough. their sauces had no real flavor. Very much over priced. Would not eat there again. The cafe was also good. Their pizza (although not like in US) were very good. Nice touches with room service. Would I come back? I think so, now I know where to eat.

    "Best trip ever!"
If your planning a trip to Cancun do not second guess staying here. Everything really is like the pictures and the staff is excellent. By the end of your trip you will see many of them not only as staff but also as your friends! everyone enjoys their job and you can tell. Especially Clive who works as a server by the pool.

    "Great location but needs updating"
(We did not choose All-Inclusive Option because there are so many options close by) Positives: Hotel location is great, especially if you want to walk to nightlife/grocery store/market. Beach was much nicer than many hotels close to us that were covered in disgusting seaweed, and we could always find a chair and umbrella. Great pools with enough chairs and a swim up bar. We did buy beer and a cooler (no fridge), and brought that down to the beach to save some money. The employees were all pleasant and friendly. Negatives: The construction going on next door was loud. Luckily, our room was on the other side. I highly recommend paying extra for ocean view, and ask to be on opposite end of construction . We also got chairs and umbrellas on the other side of hotel where we could not hear it. The rooms are not very luxurious at all, but comfortable enough and clean. No chairs on the balcony. We found out the walls were very thin the last night when we had a bachelor party move in next to us :/ So, bring earplugs!

"Second Trip more wonderful that the first"
My wife and I returned to the Excellence Club Riviera Maya for our 31st wedding anniversary. We continued to be impressed by the resort and especially the staff. We stayed in the club section and was impressed by the friendliness and desire by the staff to make our stay an experience. Carolina was so helpful and was always very courteous and cared about our stay at the resort. We also had the opportunity to meet and talk to Ulises who also was very helpful. Joseph is such a hard worker around the pool and beach helping the club members. He also made sure we we happy and made every attempt to talk to us. We also found Luis, the bartender at the club and Martini bar, to be very nice and helpful. One evening he took the time to help us learn about Tequila and taste test the various brands from Mexico. Both he and Jaun were very pleasant to talk to. They made sure our experience at the bars and club was exceptional. They are both dedicated to customer service. The sea weed was certainly a problem not only for the Excellence Club but all other resorts along the Riviera Maya. We took the bike tour a couple of times and enjoyed traveling outside of the resort to the local town. The guides were very nice and made sure we were safe on our travels. The manager at the club was also very helpful in making sure we were satisfied.

"Beautiful resort, beach and wonderful people"
Stayed from 9/03 - 9/13 and had a wonderful time. Resort is beautiful, food is great and the people who work at the resort are extremely sweet and helpful. Just about everything you could possibly want is located within the resort itself. This was our second stay at the Barceló Maya Tropical and we will return, hopefully, for a third vacation.

    "Location, cleanliness, and English-speaking staff!"
It would be hard to find a more beautiful clean hotel with an English-speaking staff (and friendly!) that is a better value than this. It is only 2 blocks from the Zocalo and dozens of restaurants, attractions, churches, museums are so close -- still, it was extremely quiet. My friend has allergies and could not tolerate the particular scent the cleaning staff uses to "finish" the room, so the staff found a room that was just then being cleaned and kept it scent free all week for her. There is a nice restaurant on the top floor, which may be good for those occasions when you are too tired to go elsewhere. But there are so many restaurants to choose from in this area! An aside: I was impressed with the cleanliness of this area of Mexico City. There is hardly a gum wrapper or cigarette butt to be found on the streets and sidewalks, unlike what you find in many other major cities. For coffee addicts, there is a Starbucks just around the corner (with wi-fi).

"The service went above and beyond the usual hotel!"
The staff were very sweet and kind. Although I speak Spanish they spoke in English to me. That would be very welcoming to someone who did not have a grasp of the language. At one point I was having difficulty accessing the the internet. I went to the front desk explained my problem and within 20 min. a service man was at my door and resolved my problem.. Bottom line...if you want to feel a little bit like royalty for at least a day then stay at the Gran Hotel.....It was truly an experience worth having.
