Delightful Boutique Hotel

Pros: Clean, convenient, charming.
Location: Many restaurants and shops in Lakeview and by train or bus, it is easy to get to other areas of the city.
We always stay at the Majestic or its sister hotel the Willows when we are in Chicago. It is close to everything in the Lakeview neighborhood and close to transportation. It is always clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. For example, we needed an early morning taxi to the airport, and the staff arranged it the night before we left.

Lovely stay!

Pros: lovely
Cons: instructions on how to use the old fashion heaters :)
Location: Perfect location!
Clean room, plenty of space, wonderful staff! Nothing but good things to say! Would stay there again..next time i'm in town. The only difficult thing is that because of its older historic features...the elevator is quite small and the old fashion heaters in the rooms was a bit noisy (we changed settings without knowing it and it woke us all up in the middle of the night). But still a wonderful stay and would do it again! :)

Excellent

This hotel is very close to Wrigley field which is why we chose it. Just a short walk to and from the games. Will definitely stay here again!

Slightly Charming, Very Small

Pros: The area felt safe.
Cons: Something to brighten up the place, both the entrance and the rooms themselves.
Location: We took Uber to get anywhere we needed to go.
Overall the room was clean, but for two people sharing a queen bedroom it was very small. Lighting was dim and the TV was very slow in changing channels. We weren't sure what it was doing. The ceiling fan did not work, but after looking at it we noticed the switch on the fan itself was off. The elevator getting to the third floor was claustrophobic. Not sure we would ever stay here again. Not sure it was worth the price. Parking was several blocks away and overly priced.

Old but updated

Location: Joys and Ping Pong south on Broadway, and Red line within a 10 minute walk
Nice hotel at a reasonable price. Close enough to the Red line to get around the area. Parking on the street is pretty much impossible because Chicago has made the streets around the hotel as permit only. Parking at the hotel is $22 a day(in/out privileges), but this is half what you would pay at other hotels in Chicago.

BIG price, tiny room

Pros: It is clean, and the neighborhood it's in is very nice.
Cons: Give priority based on when people book! I can almost guarantee you that I made my reservation way before many others who were in larger rooms.
Believe me, I get the allure of a "boutique" hotel and realize that that often means small rooms with big character. But honestly, to wrap an already small room around the elevator shaft? There was quite literally not enough room to roll my (carry-on size) suitcase past the bed and into the tiny patch of room beyond. We stayed here once before in a "suite" - that term was used quite loosely, it turned out - and it was obviously a good-enough stay that we came back. But I definitely felt slighted by getting the smallest/least comfortable room in the place after having made my reservation MONTHS in advance. For the price I paid, I could have stayed downtown in a much more luxurious room and had a real breakfast included.

Potential, potential, potential....

Pros: STAFF 5 star LOUNGE 4 star LOCATION 5 star (if you want to be near Lincoln Park, Lakeview, etc.)
Cons: Complete updating of building. OR, lower price considerably to a 2 star level.
Location: The Lake is right there. Walk to Broadway for restaurants and bars. Wood was delicious! This hub of Boystown is fun for everyone!
We have tried several hotels in Chicago over the years visiting friends and family. We wanted to be located in Lakeview (near 2 of our children's apartments). PERFECT location of hotel on a lovely residential block, close to the Lake and the main street of shops, restaurants, bars. Exterior and entrance looked great. Walked in to shabby looking interior. The lounge area in room to the left was great. Comfortable, well decorated. very nice. The rest of the common area seemed old, outdated and "just off". We stayed in Rm. 310. Hopefully no other room was like this.Small and tacky. The effort was there (nice bedding, nice extras of food in basket, nice toiletry) The radiator in the corner and the window unit air-conditioner were tired looking.Carpeting old. Musty smell in hall and tiny elevator. Just old and outdated. But such potential! I would've thought it would be a 2 star, with 2 star pricing. The price we paid was literally more than a room in the Kimpton chain and Intercontinental downtown.Don't mind staying in this situation if I was paying lower rates. Misrepresented in Travelocity description. Staff was WONDERFUL! Helpful, friendly, went over and above to make guests feel welcome."Dan the breakfast man" is a treasure, who is an amazing concierge for all things Chicago! Fingers crossed the owners know they have a great location but need to bring it up to the standards of the area. Not a 2 star area. Stayed 1 night only. Moved to less expensive Hotel Palomar.

Great stay with a neighborhood feel

Pros: The small-time feel with an amazing staff!
Cons: The room could probably use an update to give it a more modern feel, but the place feels like an old-timey hotel, so I really didn't mind.
Location: Wrigley, River Front trail and parks, lots of good eating!
I can say this without reservation or any fear of embellishment, this is true: staying at the Majestic was one of the most enjoyable hotel experiences I’ve ever had in my life. I knew when the Uber driver approached the building that we were in for a treat! The hotel is an old-style apartment building nestled in a residential area. When you walk into the building you will not see a typical hotel check-in counter. There is a desk with chairs. You will be cordially greeted during your smooth check in. I was told there are different sizes of rooms, and if you want a particular size you should call directly and well in advance of your trip to secure the larger rooms. We stayed in a small room, like, nearly European room small, but it felt old-timey and actually quite cozy! Another unique thing was the snacks on the table and drinks in the fridge. It’s junk food, but there’s a variety. Best of all, it’s all actually reasonably priced! Even the wine and beer in the room is not your normal exorbitantly priced hotel mini bar. Breakfast is served every morning, and the host of the meal is a gentleman named Dan, who is incredibly friendly! In addition to his warm welcome every morning, he is also willing to provide fascinating amounts of detail about the neighborhood, Wrigley Stadium, and the city of Chicago in general. He will help with directions, restaurant recommendations, and local events. Free wifi makes a great place even better! Bottom line: this hotel is a must!

Quaint and cozy with very nice staff

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet, close to public transportation
This was a beautiful quaint hotel tucked into a nice, quiet neighborhood with good access to public transportation. We were very pleased with the cleanliness and coziness of the place. Also, they serve cookies every day from 4-6.

stayed Sept 11 - 13 2009

What a great place to stay! The rooms are extremely clean. We had a suite which included a kitchen with a fridge, sink and microwave. It was called the sun room...we would stay there again if we went back to Chicago! It was a 3 minute walk to the bus stop to get downtown and only cost $*per ride. about 1/4 of a cab ride and just as convienient. Everyone at the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful!!!!
