I stayed here on a weekly basis back in the 80's. It had been 40 years since I last stayed here, and it was great then. The lobby is still great, but that's it. Our room was horribly musty and dated, dirty towels in the closet, no coffee maker in the room, hair in the bathroom, pillows smelled like dirty feet. The lower level shops are all but gone. I will not stay here again.

Beautiful Hotel, didn’t like the small bathroom.

Love the hotel!! It was beautiful but I didn’t like the bathroom in my room, it was very small and the sink didn’t have good drainage. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay ❤️❤️

Cockroaches run the show here. We found multiple in our rooms. And yes I say rooms because we were moved multiple times. The customer service was horrible. The general manager should be fired immediately by Hilton. Do not recommend.

Don't Use the Valet parking

Beautiful Hotel. Love the History. Stay was great. Everything was as described, very clean, & comfortable. However.....I Don't recommend using Valet Parking! I received my truck back with Large scrapes down the side and they refused to cover the cost of the damage. They said there was no way to prove the damage was done by them in the parking garage. $1500 later, I am not a happy traveler.

If you stay in Room 19 280, beware of the incessant freight elevator noise. You're also out of luck if you'd like a pen and notepad, or even a coffee machine (apparently they're available if you call for one, but they're STANDARD in many non-luxury hotels). The bathroom doesn't have a working standard shower head. We had to snake the rope showerhead over a stand to set it in place. And forget about taking a bath. There's no tub. Another interesting thing--if you give your key card to the person who offers express checkout and promises an email invoice, you won't have one in your inbox 3 business days later. The $100-per-night incidental charge also apparently lives on your credit card for at least 3 business days. Yes, the lobby is gorgeous and the history is rich. But there is nothing exceptional about the rooms or the service in the Palmer House. Even the elevators advertise a "brand-new" pool...that is not actually open (as of June 22, 2025). What an elegant, hollow mirage of luxury this place is! Don't be taken in. I certainly won't be staying here again.

Mediocre room

Room was mediocre for price. Too much activity in and out of property. Parking and parking garage and walk to get back to hotel was a nightmare. Took approximately 30-45 min to come down elevator from room, cross street, go up another elevator to vehicle, come back down elevator, cross street to hotel, then go up another elevator. And elevators only go up certain floors, so make sure you’re at the right elevator . If you are traveling alone with kids on a budget, I don’t recommend this hotel.

Hotel gives a vintage feel, for the aesthetic it should have a cheaper price tag. This was the most expensive room I’ve stayed in Chicago and also the most outdated, small and just no perks. Room was very noisy, you could hear the pipes from plumbing when other rooms used the facilities. Overall it was a 5/10
