Great experience! Staff was wonderful! Quick check in and a room was ready early for us. Room was clean, well appointed, beds were very comfortable. Loved the high bathroom, as well as the shampoo and conditioner and shower gel that was provided. We will go back next year. Great stay!

Great Hotel - Would go back.

Pros: Modern Decor
Cons: More Free Amenities - Breakfast?
Location: Within walking distance to ALOT. Upscale shopping mall attached to hotel.
I went to Chicago for the weekend and am very glad I chose the Gwen. Great hotel, great location! Everything was very nice, modern, clean, etc. I had 2 rooms. They were both supposed to be king beds, but since we did check in late (which they were aware of) they were out of king beds, so 1 room ended up being a double. Not a big deal. The rooms were beautiful, the beds were amazing / super comfy! I liked that there was a shopping mall attached to our hotel. Overall A+, the only downside was I got charged an extra one hundred and fifty dollars in "fees" per room at the hotel, for what I have yet to know. I wish I had known that information going in.

A Pretty Face without a Personality

Pros: Beautiful artwork and lobby.
Cons: Lack of restrooms by fitness. Restaurant and bar quality. General lack luster hotel staff.
The hotel wasn't horrible but it wasn't good either. It was a beautiful hotel but lacking in service or customer care that you would typically expect in downtown Chicago at a nice hotel. The room itself was standard but nothing really beyond that measure - certainly nothing that would make me recommend this place to a friend. The bar and dining room were nearly empty on a Friday night and experiencing the service and the food reminded me of the start of an episode of bar rescue - which would frankly be an excellent idea for this place. In general there also needed to be a bit of an increase in housekeeping staff for the general areas. The alarm in our room had been set for 5:00 a.m. Saturday by a previous guest I assume - which was also a bit irritating that this had not been checked. When we used the fitness center on the 11th floor we discovered that the bathrooms outside of it were locked - meaning that we would have to go up the elevators and down to our room if we wished to use the facilities - which we watched play out with other guests (over three days) who also made this discovery. Lastly, when we were checking out we discovered that we couldn't do it electronically or through the TV - you had to go to the front desk and check out - which means waiting in line again... Overall again it wasn't horrible - just was not the pleasant experience I hoped to get for a nice weekend in Chicago at a nice and pricey hotel. All in all not bad - just not great either.

Great location

Pros: The rooms were huge by Chicago standards and the location was great for River North. The hotel is attached to a mall that opens right onto Michigan Avenue, so most places that we wanted to go were a short walk away. The staff was very accommodating and friendly and the rooms were clean and had great views of the area.
Cons: The only issue that we had was that the ice machine on our floor never worked. Beyond that, everything was perfect.

I don't usually do this....but

Pros: Everything....and we go in to Chicago at least twice a month...going back this coming weekend too.
Cons: They can't give you great views since they are over a Mall really....but the acceptability is worth it.
Location: Center of the busy area.
This was well located...just over Nordstroms and a HUGE shopping mall. I was on crutches and they had the hotel Mercedes Limo drive us to Victoria's Secret...5 blocks down because it was raining. The place is going to do an update on the lobby...and I can't figure out WHY???...it is modern and clean and stylish. Food was great, being gimpy I ate here twice over our 3 days. Beds were comfortable, the bellhop saw we had leftovers and ordered up a Microwave...they care and it shows.

No amenities whatsoever.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who isn't wealthy. The hotel room was clean and comfortable, but there was no coffee maker, no refrigerator, no microwave, no pool, no hot tub, and no ice machine on our floor. Give me a Drury or Days Inn any day over the Conrad. The only thing it had going for it was the location. Even the clerk who checked us in was sarcastic towards us because we were asking about extra costs that we might not know about.

Great hotel in great location

We had an excellent time during our stay at the Conrad Hotel. The room was lovely and the staff pleasant and accommodating.
