Flight Review

Mar 11, 2020

The flight was very busy. The carry-on luggage rules are extremely lax. My small carry-on was 30 rows from my seat. I’m not sure why boarding has to be so chaotic. Why the front of the plane boards first seems strange to me. The less time spent on the plane seems like the best deal. Anyway... The crew were friendly and did a decent job of keeping things together. The food was mediocre at best. As usual it was a bit cramped. Nothing new for basic transatlantic flight. But we took off on time and landed early. So, no problems there. Transatlantic flight is purely functional for me- get me there in a reasonable amount of time. The rest is film-flam. This flight did what I needed it to do. If you have higher standards...

How to get through airport security fast when traveling to Madrid

If you like the thought of spending more time at the airport cafes and less time wading through security on your way to Madrid, follow these handy tips:

  • Keep your passport and boarding pass within easy reach. They'll be the first things you'll be asked for by airport security personnel.
  • It's useful to know that belts with metal buckles can set off the body scanner's alarms. If you have one on, you may be instructed to remove it before moving forward.
  • All laptops must be taken out of their carry bags and placed in a tray before X-raying.
  • Flying with a new cologne? As long as it's not bigger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and it's stored in a clear resealable plastic bag, you can keep it in your carry-on luggage.
  • Security personnel may instruct you to remove your shoes in preparation for entering the body scanner. Pick a pair that slip off easily. There's nothing worse than having to do your laces up again and again.
  • Pocketknives and corkscrews are prohibited from entering the aircraft. Stash them away in your checked luggage to avoid losing them at the airport security checkpoint.
