Flight Review

Mar 13, 2020

Only concern were the dirty seats in first class. We took an extra measure of wiping off our seats with wipes. The wipes were black when we finished. Given the virus scare take the time to clean appropriately!

On time, great flight

The biggest issue is that there is no communication between Travelocity and southern airways. We tried to go standby on an earlier flight and southern airways couldn’t help us because we booked through Travelocity and Travelocity said they couldn’t help us either. That’s a real problem when the customer gets caught in the middle. This has happened to me before with a car rental and another airlines, as well, when things went wrong. I was left to hang.

For the first time in my life I was faced with traveling with an injury. I fly at least monthly so I’m pretty familiar with most of the policies. Kudos to the multiple Alaska Airlines employees who literally helped from car to car with oversized luggage and all. Provided the flights/schedules work for me, I always choose Alaska. I was a bit disappointed that my only bag (I rarely check anything) that was a medical device I needed to bring home after breaking my foot on vacation cost $100 to check! It was just 20lbs over weight and my only bag. It cost $100!!! It beats having to buy my own 737 for sure. Another good experience on Alaska though!! Baggage policy seems like it needs adjusting or some leeway for single oversized bags and or medical stuff. Maybe a sliding scale instead of just boosting a Benjamin. 🤙 mahalo Alaska!

How to get through airport security fast when traveling to Kailua-Kona

If you like the idea of spending more time at the airport restaurants and less time navigating your way through security on your way to Kailua-Kona, just follow these suggestions:

  • Keep your boarding pass and travel ID somewhere accessible. They'll be the first things you'll be asked for by airport security.
  • You'll have to place your music on pause for a little while. Earphones and headphones need to be removed and placed in a tray to be X-rayed. The same goes for items such as keys and coins.
  • Laptops, tablets and other electronic devices must be placed in separate bins to be X-rayed.
  • Flying with your favorite cologne? As long as it contains no more than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and it's placed in a clear zip-lock bag, you can keep it in your carry-on luggage.
  • Airport security staff may instruct you to remove your shoes prior to entering the body scanner. Wear a pair that you can take off easily. There's nothing worse than having to do your laces up again and again.
  • Put any pocketknives or other sharp and pointy items in your checked luggage. Security personnel don't allow these on the aircraft.
