Comfortable, basic hotel.

Pros: Helpful, friendly staff, room amenities, nice deep bathtubs
Cons: Lack of non-smoking single rooms
Location: Ryogoku Kokugikan, Sumo Museum, Edo-Tokyo Museum, Kyu Yasuda Garden, Memorial Hall, Sumida-gawa Terrace, all Tokyo via JR and Tokyo Metro rail systems
I was here for 11 days on my first visit to Japan. This is a perfectly comfortable hotel, in a good location away from the busiest parts of Tokyo, but thanks to the train station across the street still convenient to just about anywhere. Locally there are attractions like the Ryogoku Kokugikan sumo arena with a free sumo museum downstairs, the Edo Tokyo Museum, the Eko-in Temple, the beautiful Kyu Yasuda Garden, a pleasant terrace along the Sumida River, and others. The staff is friendly and helpful even when their English is a bit sketchy. The hotel restaurants are a tad pricey, but there are good restaurants that give excellent value right around the corner, including a cozy "yokocho" alley. You'll find the best coffee nearby at St. Marc on the ground floor of the hotel, which doesn't seem to be associated with the hotel apart from being in the same building. About the only negative to the place is that they have no non-smoking single rooms. I'd also caution vacationers that this is not a resort hotel by any means. It offers a place to stay and that's it. But really, how much time will you spend in the hotel, when there's all of Tokyo to experience? All rooms are smaller than you'd expect by American standards, but that's typical for Japan. For myself, my room was no bigger than I needed and certainly not too small. All rooms seem to include a refrigerator and safe, amenities I didn't see mentioned anywhere.

Clean, friendly staff, rock hard bed

Pros: Great staff, spotless room, excellent location
Cons: My only real complaint is the rock-hard beds.
Location: Lots to do in Sumida and the hotel is right next to the sumo stadium (the main reason we went). If you are interested in sumo, consider this hotel.
The room was well appointed, very clean, and the staff was great with pretty good English and very friendly and polite. The location for JR, the bus, and sumo was excellent. Also there's a McDonald's across the street if needed (and it was for us!). Only downsides where the small size of the room and the very hard beds. My wife and I seriously developed some back issues for the 13 nights we slept there. A shorter stay wouldn't have been so bad, of course.

Nice hotel, easy to get to the JR train

Pros: Everything was great, I enjoyed my stay.
Cons: Nothing
Location: The Edo-Tokyo Museum and the large sumo stadium are within walking distance. There is a small sumo display in the nearby train station too.
I stayed here for six nights. It's a nice hotel, right across the street from the Ryogoku JR station. I could hear the trains from my room, but it wasn't disturbing. The room was small, but I expected it. It wasn't a problem at all. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The only negative would be the hard bed and the very thin pillow, but that could just be me. I'm very picky about mattresses and pillows. I asked for an extra and the staff provided it right away.
