Some staff, although diverse ethnicity, demonstrated microaggressive behavior.
Our room smelled like cigarettes and the rug was dirty.
The pictures are not what you get once you arrive!
Or family trip had to be interrupted. We checked out before our scheduled date and chose to check in to another hotel in Oakland.

Great staff. Nice, affordable room for SF. We found a great bar and restaurant nearby. That said, you do not want to walk at night in The Tenderloin. The place is a fortress so no bad actors will get in, but the sidewalks are covered with homeless and mentally ill folks. Would definitely stay again, and hey, it comes with a FREE parking spot. Nice outdoor areas for a cocktail and beautiful heated pool. I've never met kinder staff.

We absolutely enjoyed the room and ambiance very much. I wish I asked for the guy that checked me in. I misread the front door and so I went to the front of the restaurant then had to go back to where i started and was a little too aggresive with trying to open the door lol.i messaged the hotel via text who answered promptly and professional and some of my concerns were addressed.
I look forward to my next stay.

Old hotel with cute decor
Check in staff was super nice and helpful. It was pride weekend in SF and I had no clue so the hotel was very lively. Friday night stay.
Loud music and people until about 12 midnight. Walls thin, I could hear my neighbor snore after the music went off. Early morning LOUD rolling noises (maybe cleaning carts) and people before 8am. Kind of limited the amount of sleep. Cute pool. Would suggest hotel for younger crowds, wasn't really what I wanted to spend the $$ on for my kids and I. Parking included was def a plus.

Best night's rest in SF ... ever! Fun place!
Pros:The hotel itself is pretty quirky - an "old school" motel in the middle of downtown San Francisco? Complete with a mishmash of 70's colors, fun art sculptures, a heated pool year 'round, and FREE PARKING! The staff I checked in with were extremely nice, welcoming, and helpful. I found the room to be very clean, with a super comfortable mattress and pillows. I'd been travelling around a bit for work, and this was the best night's rest I've had in a hotel in a long time! Nice touches like a flashlight in the drawer and earplugs (for those accustomed to dead-silence) were welcome. They have a simple coffee/muffin breakfast in the morning. It's right next to a federal building, which was where I was headed the next morning for court.
I would definitely return back here again - the quality of the rooms and the friendly staff sold the place!
Cons:I thought it was nice and quiet. However, if you are the noisy type, they will reserve the right to charge you $100 if your noise affects the other guests. Therefore, it may not be the best party spot, as many of their guests are there on business. They have strict "quiet" hours. When I arrived, it was Oct 31, and the alarm at the building next door was going off, which prompted fire trucks, etc. But after that was cleared up, it was a nice quiet evening. They warn you about their aging electric system, so don't expect to turn on everything at once!
Location:This is downtown San Francisco, and near BART, so you have options. They get many guests (according to the staff) who are attending federal court.

Looks better from the inside
Pros:I did like the room, it was well kept and I felt very comfortable.
Cons:Not much the hotel can do the SF needs to get their act together. I use to love visiting this city but it's seen much better days.
Location:Brenda's Soul Food was great and there's many other great restaurants nearby.
I looked at a lot of reviews before making reservations. The Phoenix Hotel had a lot of good reviews compared to the other hotels. The staff and room is great. The room was very clean and up to date. The staff was very helpful too. My only complaint would be the area. Very sketchy at night but at the same time it's close the civic center and some other great restaurants. I know that's not the hotels fault and there's not much they can do about it but it's something to consider.

Sleazy Location, Noise
Pros:Free parking
Location:The hotel is located in a part of town in which you would not feel safe walking anywhere except to your car.
This hotel is located in a sleazy part of town. Noisy. OK for 20 year olds who want to party.

Possibly the worst hotel experience I've ever had!
Advertised parking, pool and breakfast so we booked. Upon arrival the pool deck was packed solid with scantily clad intoxicated people not staying at the hotel rocking out to music so loud it rattled the windows in our room until 8 pm. Management claimed they couldn't notify us prior to our arrival about their " pool party "since we booked through a "third party" even though we spoke directly to them by phone in the weeks prior to our arrival. We would have stayed somewhere else had we known. Finally, the "breakfast" was only coffee/tea and a mini scone or muffin...not the continental we expected with fruit and juice and cereals etc. received elsewhere. Such a disappointment all around.
