Motel 6 San Diego Downtown

1546 2nd Avenue, San Diego - Map
"Not so bad despite the reviews"
The room was small but perfect for 1 - 2 people. It was clean and comfortable. The only issue was that I paid for the upgraded wifi so I could work on business matters but the connection was spotty and eventually I gave up trying. I was only out $5 but I needed to get work done while in my room and that didn't happen.

"Harborview Inn San Diego"
This hotel is within steps of Little Italy, coffee shops and the beautiful view of the water. The free parking is a bonus, because most hotels in San Diego charge for parking. For the extremely reasonable price I had a clean shower, Wifi, nice flat screen TV and everything else you would expect in a much more expensive hotel. I would stay there again and recommend to a friend.

The Sofia Hotel

"Beautiful historic hotel in Gaslamp"
This hotel has many pros and no cons. We loved staying here and plan to come again! First, you have to keep in mind that it's a historic hotel. The rooms aren't going to be huge. However, a room with a queen bed was more than adequate for two people. The hotel is beautifully decorated. They had free Girl Scout cookies in the lounge. They had free yoga lessons in a studio within the hotel. They gave free guided walking tours. Their attached restaurant was very good. The hotel service was very good; they were very polite and seemed to enjoy working there. The Sofia Hotel is located in Gaslamp and a $5 Uber ride from the main area/Gaslamp sign. Honestly, we could have walked to the main area if it wasn't raining. Definitely worth the amount of money paid and was a great experience!

"Really helped me out!"
I was in San Diego for a conference, and my light home was cancelled due to a blizzard back in Boston. The place I was staying was completely booked, so I needed somewhere else to go. The staff here were great! I was able to drop my bags off early during the last day of the conference, and they held them at the desk. My flight home was two days away, and I was able to get work done outside in the sunshine and also in their little office off the lobby. The wifi worked great in my room too, but I couldn't stay away from the nice weather! The location is great - right in Little Italy and close to lots of restaurants, shops etc... I walked to the Harbor one day, and to Balboa park another day. When I go back to San Diego, I will definitely stay here again!

Very nice hotel! The staff were very polite, accommodating & helpful. I wish they had a complimentary breakfast service but there was a restaurant right across the parking lot & the food there was excellent. The hotel was right off the highway & easy to find. It was close to the Coronado beach which we really liked. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends visiting the area!

"Very nice, especially for the price"
I needed to book a hotel last minute for one night as I was arriving late from overseas. This was one of the cheapest options and relatively close to the Oceanside transit center. Room was nice and roomy, bed was huge and very comfortable. The room key didn't work at first but the staff were helpful and we got it sorted out. Pleasantly surprised by how nice this was!

"Perfect Getaway!"
Everything about Loew's was just wonderful! Every staff member greeted us, no matter what time of day! We did not have a car, so the parking fee was not an issue for us. We took advantage of the shuttle to Coronado almost every day. We walked to the beach to watch the sunset each night. It was an extremely relaxing getaway! I would highly recommend this hotel!

San Diego Pet Friendly Hotel Guide

The English moral philosopher Bernard Williams once said, “There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.” A truer statement we could not find. But it doesn’t have to necessarily be a puppy. A grown dog shows the same if not more affection to you than a furry little pup. Either way, it’s that love and affection your pet gives that makes you want to treat the fur ball to something special. And we’re not talking about a quick game of fetch in the backyard. We think your loyal companion would love to accompany you on your trip to “America’s Finest City.” Our pet friendly hotels in San Diego will ensure your stay is one to remember.

Where should I visit near downtown San Diego that’s pet friendly?

There’s plenty of places to visit near downtown San Diego that are pet friendly. Here’s a short list of some of the must-dos for you and your pet.

    • Balboa Park: The biggest urban cultural park in the country is a great place to go for a walk. The splendid architecture provides a perfect backdrop as you and your dog run about one of the many open grass areas that exist throughout the park.
    • Fiesta Island: Located in nearby Mission Bay, this sand dune-covered island —it’s not really an island—is a great place for your energetic pup to run freely. The two of you can play fetch for hours at long distances because of the amount of open space.

Though not pet-friendly, one place that is a must-visit for animal lovers is the world famous San Diego Zoo. Located in Balboa Park, this incredible attraction is a cut above the rest of the zoos you’ve visited. You’ll wander through this amazing animal kingdom passing through exhibits like Elephant Odyssey, Gorilla Tropics, and Panda Trek. Speaking of that last one, this is one of the few zoos in the world that houses and successfully breeds giant pandas. If you’re interested in getting a bird’s-eye view of the enclosures, go for a ride on the Skyfari gondolas and soar above the park like the California condors housed in the aviary.

What are the best beaches to visit in San Diego with my pet?

There seems to be an endless number of beautiful beaches to visit in this magnificent city. If you’re looking to mix sun, sand, and thrills, make your way to the friendly shores of Mission Beach. Lay out on the sand while the sun kisses your skin and take in the beauty that surrounds you. If you detect a scent of cotton candy and hear the sounds of carnival rides, those are coming from Belmont Park. The oceanfront amusement park has been in operation since 1925 and its flagship ride, the Giant Dipper roller coaster, will allow your inner child to properly escape for some much needed excitement.

If you’re staying at one of our dog friendly hotels in San Diego like the Fairmont Grand - Del Mar, you’ll be a short distance away from dog beach. This expansive stretch of sand on the border with Del Mar and Solana Beach is the perfect place for you and your energetic canine to run free. Closer to downtown is the city of Ocean Beach and another dog-friendly stretch of shore. And when the pooch is covered from head to tail in sand, take him into the water for a cool rinsing. Your dog won’t soon forget this day.

Sure, there are few things that are better than taking a trip with no one except yourself. It allows you to clear your mind. But it can’t hurt to bring along the friend who understands you the most and brings out your best. Travelocity’s list of hotels that allow dogs in San Diego includes the Hotel Indigo - Gaslamp Quarter and will provide you two with as much comfort as you’d find at home.
