I was looking for different, found wonderful!

Pros: The lovingly preserved history. You felt like you had taken a trip back to the roaring twenties -- but still had a wifi signal!
Cons: A check-in time of 3, rather than 4 would be much better.
Location: In the heart of Old Sacramento within strolling distance of kitschy gift shops, art galleries, candy stores, bars, restaurants and live entertainment.
I thought it would be kinda fun to try a room on a boat -- I'd never slept on a boat before... this was SO much more than that! They refurbished this 1927 paddle-wheel boat from stem to stern! Every bit of brass, wood, and stained glass window gleamed. Every -- and I do mean EVERY person I came in contact with, was cheery and engaging. The Delta King family made our 24th anniversary trip into something truly memorable! We will definitely be back!

Delta king...hotel on the river

My wife and I stayed at the delta king 10/30/15 just one night. The room was pretty small. We were on the 3rd floor. But we wanted to stay for the experience and be walking distance from old Sacramento which is right in front of you. The room decor was dated and our room was right next to the steps so we could hear people walking up and down all night. The free breakfast was good. Nothing really stands out. So don't expect a nice place for being a 100 year old boat

Nice hotel on river

Friendly staff, cosy comfortable quarters (as we expected). Loved proximity to old town Sacramento. Very nice meal in board. Nice to have breakfast included. Not as quiet as we thought it would be as quite a lot of activity on the river and people stomping upstairs but overall a comfortable stay

Riverboat history

Pros: The charm and authenticity.
Cons: The TV was too complicated for this old timer. But who watched TV on a river cruise anyway.
Location: Old Sacramento has the California Railroad Museum, one of the best of it's kind in the nation.
The Delta King stern wheeler is tied up along the Sacramento river in Old Sacramento. Our room (cabin) was on the top deck river side of the riverboat. Riverboat cabins are about half the size of a regular hotel room. There is no elevator and we brought quite a few suitcases. If it weren't for the handyman helping with those bags both on and off the boat, we probably wouldn't have enjoyed the stay as much. The Delta King has all the charm of the old west. The hotel is elegant and well maintained. We had fun living in the "olden days". Complimentary breakfast was excellent and served in the dining room as it would have been on a river cruise.

Hotel room was over booked, they upgraded my room.

I had a great "stateroom" small, but all I needed. Best part was I was upgraded to the water side and it was amazing. Able to watch the boats go up and down river, it was a wonderful experience and much better than a regular hotel room.

adorable hotel on the river

Pros: On the river, on a boat, restaurant, bar
Cons: Cleanliness
Location: Such a great location. Right on the river and we were able to walk to shops, dining, and entertainment.
This was such a charming room. The view of the water was great. The rooms are extremely small and quant. My only real gripe was the cleanliness. The bed frame, tv, and blinds looked liked they hadn't been dusted in years which made me question the cleanliness of the rest of the room.

Claustrophobic

Pros: Novel, quaint, and great view.
Cons: Faster hot water time, maybe slightly smaller bed to allow more movement room.
Location: Google it; there's plenty.
I knew the room would be small, but didn't realize just how small. It's way too tiny. And a bit too ancient. For one night the novelty of being on the boat countered the discomfort of the room, so it was bearable. But more than one night would be torture.

Rollin' on the RIVER

Pros: Very Nostalgic especially being around all the attractions of Old town Sacramento.
Cons: Work out the Breakfast pricing thing. Queen size beds only and a bit hard for my tastes. We were denied a late checkout but it DID get us breakfast.
Location: There are so many options for food around old Sacramento we ate someplace different for each meal. LOTS of shopping too.
We spent 3 nights on the Delta King including the Saturday night Suspects murder mystery Dinner. The rooms were well appointed but as you can expect from a 90 year old ship it takes a bit of getting used to. The slight crown of the deck makes you tend to lean slightly. It takes a while to figure out why you feel off balance. Especially around happy hour. The ship is well restored and a lot of fun to walk the decks imagining what it was like back in her heyday. Our only dinner aboard was for the murder. Food was ok considering how many had to be served simultaneously. The show going on all around you was hilarious too. The free breakfast was very good although the pricing was odd. The Eggs, bacon and potatoes that was included cost more than almost anything else on the menu. The weird part is that if you wanted to change to something else that was cheaper it cost an extra $5. I didn't care though and went for the Salmon Benedict which was excellent. The bar and appetizers were very good so I have to presume the pilothouse restaurant was too. Joe's Crab shack is a short walk and you pass the Rio Grille. Both of which were excellent. Grazzianos for Pizza and GREAT Bloody Mary's. Don't miss Angeline's upstairs costumes. BIG FUN!

Nice but drafty

Pros: The attentiveness of the staff
Cons: Rooms are a little small, especially the bathroom, but would be hard to improve as they are on a riverboat.
Location: The art museum was closed. The shops are all touristy, so not interesting to us. The railroad museum is a must-visit, our fourth time there.
You can't expect complete comfort on an old riverboat, but nevertheless our stay was extremely pleasant. The staff were friendly and courteous and the food was very good. Parking was easy as we just left our car in the hands of the concierge. This was a good place to meet for lunch. We invited some friends to lunch there and had plenty of opportunity to chat.
