The Space:
Welcome to the Hawthorne Hangout!
We are tucked right into the heart of the SE Hawthorne district with shops and dining to explore.
Step out the front door and you’re minutes away from the legendary Bagdad Theater, the shelves of Powell’s Books, and more vintage shops and food carts than you can fit into one weekend. If you need to head across the bridge to Downtown or the Pearl District, plan your trip around current traffic.
The Setup
This 2-bedroom main-floor duplex apartment is set up to be the perfect home base for families, work trips, or a weekend getaway with friends.
Sleep tight: We have three beds with linens and pillows. 2 private bedrooms with queen size and 1 double bed tucked into a living room nook.
Stay charged: No hunting for outlets—the nightstands have built-in USB ports for your phones and gear.
Eat in: Our kitchen has stainless appliances and a big table that seats 6. We’ve stocked it with plenty of coffee pods, cookware, and dishes to make your mornings easy.
Little Extras We Love
We want you to feel at home the second you walk in. You’ll find a gas fireplace for cozy nights, a Smart TV and board games for a rainy afternoon. We’ve even included an interactive map where you can pin where you’re visiting from! We also provide all the essentials—shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and laundry soap—so you can pack light.
A Quick Heads-Up
Parking: We have a private driveway; the designated gravel/front area is tight. Street parking is subject to posted signs and open spaces.
Access: There’s a short flight of stairs to get inside.
The Vibe: We love being in the middle of the action, but since it’s a vibrant urban area, you’ll definitely hear the "hum" of the city and nearby traffic.
Guest Access:
🔑 Self check-in with smart lock - arrive within your booked check-in window
📶 Wi-Fi
🚗 Free driveway parking; street parking is subject to signs and open spaces
Make yourself at home. If anything comes up, we're a quick message away.
The Neighborhood:
Often compared to San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, Portland’s Hawthorne District is renowned for its vintage shops, restored theaters, street performers, and vibrant creative characters. This eclectic mix makes it one of the city’s top destinations for both locals and visitors. Adding to its charm, the neighborhood boasts a standout food scene, making a day spent on the bustling Southeast street an effortless delight.
Getting Around:
🚶 Walking — This neighborhood sits between the Division and Hawthorne corridors, two of Portland's best streets for dining and shopping — both within easy walking distance.
🚌 Bus — TriMet serves the Hawthorne area; check current routes, stops and schedules.
🚲 Biking — Check BIKETOWN for current bike-share locations and plan a route that suits your trip.
🚗 Driving — Free street parking is available where signs permit; spaces are not reserved. Rideshare pickup times vary.
✈️ Airport — Plan your PDX trip around current traffic or transit schedules.

This was not what I expected. Based on the description, this would be a 5 star booking. After my stay, I am a little disappointed.
For this property, it appears that quantity is prioritized over quality.
We had several issues. First, parking is a nightmare. The property is on a busy 4 lane street.
Second, when we arrived, there were only 6 chairs at the dining table. I messaged the property manager, who praised for catching that (the fact they were not aware should have been a red flag). To fix this, they appeared to have Door Dashed me a folding chair.
Third, the second floor occupants are noisy and their movement makes sleeping difficult.
Fourth, the overall maintenance is not great. The toilet is not secured to the floor and some sketchy wiring for an outlet. The electronic door lock battery died, locking us out. It took several minutes before we were given a code to access a physical key.
I am not saying you should not book here; review everything carefully.

We arrived on a Saturday afternoon for a birthday weekend. Upon arrival, the parking space designated for our truck was already occupied by other vehicles. I immediately took photos and notified the homeowner. We were told they would reach out to neighbors to resolve the issue. After leaving for the evening and returning later that night, there were even more vehicles blocking the space. I again sent photos and was told we could park down the street and apologized for the inconvenience. At that point, it became apparent there was an upstairs rental, indicating the property is a duplex—this was not disclosed in the listing. We also observed a travel trailer in the backyard with people living in it, as well as a run-down van parked directly next to the master bedroom with additional occupants. These conditions were unexpected and concerning. The home is located on a very busy street, which combined with the parking issues and undisclosed shared property, significantly impacted our stay. When I raised these concerns and suggested a small gesture—such as a partial refund of the cleaning deposit—I was told to contact VRBO for compensation rather than receiving any resolution from the host. This was an unfortunate experience. A simple acknowledgment and minimal compensation would have gone a long way, but the host’s response was dismissive and unprofessional.
