This hotel is one of the nicer hotels on the beach

Pros: Close restaurants
Cons: No free Internet
We stayed on the street side of the Rondel. While we were there, they were installing a stop light which will help. There was always a crossing guard but sometimes cars would not stop for him. I still would recommend the street side as the prices are much more reasonable and the crossing of the street is no big deal. You are still very close to the beach. Be sure to take a street taxi on your own for 900 Jamaican (9.00 US) into town or to Ricks Cafe as the hotels want $10 U.S. per person each way. This allowed four people to travel for $9.00 each way total. Overall, we enjoyed staying at the Rondel.

Great place to stay!

We spent 9 days here and had a wonderful vacation. We stayed across the street from the ocean because that was the the only rooms available. It is a very short walk to the beach and they have staff stop the traffic for you.The rooms were very nice. The only thing I would change would be a softer bed. The staff was awesome, and you felt safe there. The restaurant was reasonable prices and very good. We visited a big resort for one day, and I am glad we stayed at Rondel Village. The cleanliness of the inside and outside exceeded 90% of the resorts we saw. I hope to visit again!

Best value for your money on Negril Beach

Pros: Quiet
I have been to Negril dozens of times and stayed at just about every hotel there. Rondel is the best of the three star hotels. Clean, safe, friendly and reasonable. The rooms are very nice and love the proximity to the beach. Both the bar and restaurant are great ways to start and end your long days on the beach. I just booked my trip for January and cannot wait to get there!!

Would come back right now if I could!!!!

This place is wonderful!! Very centrally located, right across the street from The Jungle nightclub and close to all other attractions. Front desk staff is very friendly and the hotel is very safe with the 24/hr security guards. I would DEFINATELY always stay on the beach side because it is so pretty, quiet and relaxing. The rooms are nice with cable, mini fridge and daily housekeeping. The food is expensive at the restaurant and just ok but overall this is going to be the only place I ever stay at when I come back!! My family thanks everyone there for a awesome vacation ;0)

Rondel is quintessentially Jamaican...friendly, fun, fabulous and funky.

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet, friendly staff
Cons: No free Internet, you must pay a fee for the use of the room safe.
We do not like all-inclusives: too expensive, too sterile and not enough opportunity to talk to the people, taste the mouth watering variety of fresh fish prepared in countless delicious ways (my favorites: escovitched red snapper and king fish in brown stew.) in open air restaurants all along the beach. Eating every night at an all inclusive also precludes one's opportunity to support the street merchants who use old steel barrels to make homemade grills for cooking jerk chicken, goat and fish all along the Norman Manley Blvd or to dance by the light of the moon to the live reggae that flows from all the open air beach front dance halls! So, Rondel Village at Negril Beach is my cup of tea! It is smack dab in the middle of all the goings on! I've stayed on the Garden side which offers the most economical accommodations and is across the road from the magnificently gorgeous 7 mile beach. After you cross the road the short (less than 5 min.) walk through the hotel property to the beach is lovely. The grounds are profuse with tropical flora and all the sweet scents that accompany these plants. The huts on the Garden side are a little more difficult to keep clean as they are built right on the sand; but with the exception of tiny ants often spotted on the bathroom floors, the rooms are kept immaculate and decorated with fresh tropical flowers every day. Each hut has it's own front porch with a table and chairs. The porches are quite private as they are surrounded by high growing native plants. We upgraded this year and stayed in a 'superior room ' on the beach side. We were on the 3rd floor, which is the highest level. Our balcony looked over the several white wooden buildings and stairways and balconies and a lovely pool, all of which are arranged so cleverly and appealingly to use the space to its best advantage. When I gazed over the property from my balcony it reminded me of an Escher print...different angles leading the eye on a wild goose chase to figure out where they begin and to where they lead! The 'Superior Rooms' are kept spotless by hard working, friendly Jamaican women whom you call by name after your first meeting! You receive a card to get a fresh beach towel each day. So, you do not have to stuff one in your suitcase! We shook out our towels and kept them for a few days for ecology reasons; but we did request two towels instead of one so we could roll one behind our necks while reading on the beach. Carl happily complied with our wishes. He and the other beach staff personnel are friendly, attentive, quick witted, and kept me laughing. They kept away pesky vendors and would put a chair and towel out for you in a specified spot each morning upon request. Rondel Village is not luxurious; but it is clean, friendly, safe, comfortable and a great deal for a reasonable price. In addition, it is pleasing to the eye. To me it feels and looks very Jamaican/Caribbean/tropical. It is the tasty cherry on the top of my luscious Jamaican paradise adventure. It's got the vibe, mon!

Excellent TIme!!

Let me just say this hotel is definitely worth every penny! If you're looking for non-AI. Check in was fast and security always was around. We stayed in the Mandarin room which was right over the pool and hot tub. It was a superior Room. The room was huge! Huge Balcony! Everything on there website is all true. The restaurant and Bar were great too. The food was delicious and resonably priced and the drinks were cheap! Delroy the bartender was the best! Drinks were always strong and he had your drink waiting when he saw you coming! I had jerk chicken and oxtails, both were good. Breakfast was good also. The hotel is located somewhere in the middle of the beach....we were able to walk to both ends of the beach. Will definitely stay at Rondel again!

Owners wedding

The ladies and I have come to rondel villege two years in a row, and we had the BEST time on our first trip in 07. We booked again for around the same time in 08 and we went. Little did we know the owners granddaughter was getting married, we were not given the option ahead of time to pick another place to stay,or given compensation for the oversight. We only found out about the wedding when we checked in, and our villa was not going to be ready for 2 days. The staff was GREAT as always but the owner and her family were less than welcoming. The restaurant and bar were closed for 2 days and the wedding was right in the middle of the walk way to the beach we felt like intruders the whole vacation with the looks and less than cordial hellos. We are going back to Negril in Oct 09 but we will NOT be staying at Rondel.

Scam at the bar.

Stayed there 10/21/08 to 10/26/08. Stayed in Kiwi (no room numbers). Actual room OK. AC and fan sufficient (it was hot out). Hot water luke warm at best. Third day there, no hot water. Let it pass. Fourth day same thing. They finally got it fixed in the afternoon. Next day, same scenario no hot water. Three days in a row a little much to deal with. Restaurant and bar on premesis nice. I was paying cash for the restaurant and the bar. One bartender would not give me a check for the bar bill. Wrote it on a paper napkin. When I asked again, he said they did not have bills/receipts for cash customers. He made a big deal out of that. When I got sick of listening to his ragtime, he went over to the restaruant part for fifteen minutes. Came back with something that looked like a rent receipt. At that point I got a little sick of the dude. Pointed out the calculator in his work area, and the receipt book underneath it. Lo and behold he wrote me a printed bill that was labeled CASH CUSTOMERS. Draw your own conclusions. Don't expect to get a decent mixed drink from this party. What you will get if you are observant, is a little wave of the bottle. Bring your own shot glass. Other bartender X was a cool dude, decent drinks. A bit bummed out when we went to supper at 9:30 PM and both the restaurant and bar were closed. This was on a Saturday night. Don't think I would stay there again, or reccommend it to someone I liked.

Why Go Anywhere Else?

When we were driving out to Rondel Village we passed the ""Grand Paladium."" 2000 room exclusive resort created for xenophobes afraid of Jamaica's own culture. Why the hell would anyone want to stay there? Well, I don't know. Money has it's reasons, I suppose. Deeper into Negril, on Norman Manley Blvd you will find many small quaint non-corporate housing options, with real Jamaican staff. Imagine spending your money helping give the people whose land you are stealing a leg up! Seems reasonable. Rondel was awesome. A polite staff, clean rooms, reasonable prices...and the buildings were just beautiful. Surrounded by native flora. The beach was divine. Rondel has twenty some units, so you aren't someone in Building 30 room 320. You'll feel it in the way of personalized service. They hosted a wedding while we were there, which was on the beach. Irie on the Beach (the restaurant) excellent food. If you want a little more of the real culture of Jamaica...this is your spot.
