Condado de Fairfield
A pair of hungry slugs making a meal out of a cluster of Orange Mycena mushrooms (Mycena leaiana).
A couple of turtles sunning themselves on Ashton Pond inside of Blacklick Woods metro Park.
A pillowy sea of white created by a cluster of flowering dogwood (Cornus florida) brightens a twilight hike through Chestnut Ridge Metropark.

The true flowers are actually the tiny greenish-yellow clusters in the middle of the showy white bracts.
A fallen tree covered in snow and bracket fungi lays across the frozen Arney Run along the edge of Christmas Rocks State Nature Preserve.

Despite sounding like an album of holiday jams, Christmas Rocks State Nature Preserve is a tucked away 554 acre sanctuary. Until recently, the preserve was permit only, but now is open to the public. It can be tricky to locate the trail. There is a covered bridge nearby with a small parking lot. From there, head north to an old logging road. Follow that along Arney Run to your right and the trails will be dead ahead. There are two loop trails for about a total of 5 miles of hiking. I recommend the Christmas Rocks trail first and then the Jacob's Ladder trail so that your hike wraps with a beautiful view overlooking the area.
